The injured Alyssa Healy has been replaced in the ODI lineup for the Sydney Thunder by 21-year-old hitting sensation Georgia Voll. The regular captain of Australia was sidelined for the current WBBL 2024 season due to a knee injury.
Healy is anticipated to return to full fitness for the upcoming New Zealand series, therefore Voll is just included for the India series. As she did during the latter rounds of the T20 World Cup when Healy sustained a foot injury, Tahlia McGrath will assume captaincy responsibilities. McGrath's deputy will be Ash Gardner, while Beth Mooney will take over as "keeping gloves."
After joining the Thunder, Voll has had an incredible WBBL season, scoring 299 runs in nine innings at a strike rate of 145.85. She has previously played in the domestic 50-over Women's National Cricket League, scoring 201 runs in four innings. Alongside her Thunder teammate Phoebe Litchfield, she will start the batting against India.
"With next year's Ashes series and ICC Women's World Cup very much very much the focus, we have chosen an experienced squad for these two future tours," stated Shawn Flegler, national selector and head of performance for Cricket Australia. "Over the past few years, Georgia Voll has demonstrated her talent and has had a great start to the summer.
"She will have a fantastic opportunity to experience playing international cricket against a formidable India team, forming an intriguing partnership at the top of the order with Phoebe Litchfield. Alyssa Healy's decision to skip the India series was made with the Ashes in mind, and it will become more apparent in the coming weeks whether or not she can play in the New Zealand series.
The Allan Border Field in Brisbane will host the three-match ODI series against India on December 5, four days after the WBBL season concludes.
Alyssa Healy (*available only for the NZ series), Darcie Brown, Ashleigh Gardner, Kim Garth, Alana King, Phoebe Litchfield, Tahlia McGrath, Sophie Molineux, Beth Mooney, Ellyse Perry, Megan Schutt, Annabel Sutherland, Georgia Voll (*available only for the India series), and Georgia Wareham are the members of Australia's women's ODI team against India and New Zealand.
