I held my breath hoping it would hide me from Oscar's loud stomps, my face went red and my cheeks must've looked all puffed up like a squirrel tucking away all its nuts for the winter.
Milo's small hands, made their ways towards me cheeks. My eyes widened as I pleaded for him to not do what I think he was going to.
I need to work on my face signals.
His hands slammed down and my skin jolted. "Milo!" I huffed; but a smile drew across my face whilst his eyes glistened with happiness.
Amidst the loud laughter, the door pushed open and a shadow crowned over Milo's small body. His laughter stopped immediately, and he wiggled his way down into my arms. "Look Oscar." I started, standing up.
His dusky hair looked wet as if had been standing in the rain, and his eyebrows were perched in such a way that the confusion on his face was clear. "What is going on?" Good question.
"Long story."
"I- First off all why the heck is the hallways filled with kids furniture and why is their a- a baby in your goddamn lap."
He gave Milo a pointed look, making him cower under my grip. "I'll explain in a bit, I'll come to the living room." He gave me a pointed look before sighing and walking off. Sweat dripping down his face.
"Be quick, I-"
"You stink, I know." I made a disgusted face before he just chuckled and walked out. The door shut behind him and all I wanted to do was crawl into bed and sleep.
I'm a nap guy, I'd probably be wrapped up in my sheets for a few hours after the gym.
Milo seemed to be a nap guy to, I doubt he actually felt satisfied with that short 20 minutes nap from our small shopping trip.
"Let's get you into some pjs." I mumbled, getting up of the wooden floor and scanning the room for some type of suitable kids pajamas.
I found a small top, that must've shrunken in the wash or one of nephews old top.
"Can you take your top off for me, buddy?" I ran my thumb over his forehead and he just began trying to pull it off.
"Moni."
"What's Moni?" I looked around, trying to see if I had anything with the word 'Moni' on it to no luck.
He continued to tug and got very frustrated, tears welling up. "No, no. I'll help."
He pouted as he couldn't get the 'top' off, I gently tried to take the top off without hurting him. After a few whinces and a shiver due to the cold temperatures, I managed to get the top off.
Milo smiled and his tears dried up, "Well done bud, now I'm going to put this top on okay?"
Shimming the long top over his head, it fit like a bin bag but at least it was on. I debated wether I should take his joggers but I don't feel comfortable with that yet.
"Are you ready to go to bed?" I turned around to placing those old clothes into the laundry basket; when I looked back I saw Milo crawling up towards the bed.
I didn't say anything and just watched as he talked himself in. He pulled the covers up just under his eyes peering over as I watched him.
"Comfy?" Giving me a little nod I smiled.
"Night Milo." I didn't really know how to end the night so I stood rather creepily at the end of the bed. I stepped out, and as soon as the door shut behind me I let out a hefty sigh of relief.
"Dude are you ready?" I almost jumped out my skin seeing Oscar peer out of the corner with a black....mask? All over his face.
"Did you forget to wash your face?" I asked walking into the living room. "It's a face mask, it opens my pores."
Pores? "You should try it sometime."
I scoffed pushing the pillow way from my back, "Just say you want to have some one on one time with me Oscar." I bat my eyelashes, "Don't flatter yourself."
The black TV screen stared at me, head on. The silence surrounded me and I could feel the barrage of questions falling into my lap.
..
10:12PM
"I'm going to contact a family lawyer or whatever. I'm going to do whatever I need to do to make this all work, I can start looking for a new apartment." I twisted the card the doctor earlier had given to me, the idea in my mind.
"Don't even dare."
My eyebrow raised and he gave me a looked, "You're not moving out. And the kid can stay." He muttered the last part and I could see his unsure look under that now chalky black mask.
We ended that segment with a comfortable silence. "Match of the Day?" He asked, scrolling through the TV channels.
"Go for it."
With the show rolling, we joked about the clubs at the bottom of the league. "They're so bad, the whole team needs to go on a permanent holiday."
"Just destroy the team, it'd be better for everyone's Mental Health." Joking more and more about certain teams horrific placing. I heard the floors creak and the sound came closer and closer as the crowd cheered for their clubs first goal.
"Sac." My ears perked up and behind Oscar's slumped-self I saw Milo shivering under that top.
"Oh Milo, c'mere." I stood up, picking him up from his armpits. Oscar didn't notice which wasn't surprising, I'm sure someone could be naked in front of him and he'd be too busy watching the TV.
"Do you want a blanket."
He shook his head and gave me a very confused look, his lips looked very dry. Like mine used to at a young age, I hated water. I know, how embarassing.
I would run away from anyone who thought they could place a water drop on my lip, not a chance. "Let's get you some water bubba." I took myself back for a second.
Bubba. What the actual-
Pouring some water into those flimsy plastic cups from IKEA, I lifted the cup to his lips.
He didn't hold the cup, so I stood awkwardly holding it up towards his breaking lips.
Before I knew it, he was sucking at air and I just giggled as he patiently waited for more water to just suddenly appear.
Refilling the cup, he did the same and before I knew it. He had downed 3 cups and he seemed more tired than ever.
Resting him on my hip, I bounced him around whilst waiting for his eyes to drop.
He grunted a few times as the crowd in the living room cheered when their selected team scored each thrilling goal.
"Sac." I looked down wandering if he needed anything but no, he seemed to be drifting into a peaceful state of mind and he just said my name as if he was testing my name on his tongue.
"Night Buddy."
