CHAPTER 9:PAINFUL TRUTH

Heather’s POV

White light and walls welcomed me as I open my eyes. My blurry vision caught the familiar image of a girl sitting next to me. She gave me a gentle smile when she noticed me awake.

“You’re already awake.” She stands up and check after me.

I grasp my head when it starts to ache.

“Are you okay?” Her expressive eyes told me how worried she is to see how I suffer from the severe headache.

“Yes, it’s just a headache.”

After a while the pain slightly so I try to sit. Ate Che assists me to get up. Twisting something below the bed, the half of it bent a bit—making a backrest.

“Heather,” she calls my name while she slowly sits on the chair beside my bed. She holds my right hand and looks at me directly in the eyes like she is about to confess something very serious. “You’re--”

A slight creek from the door cuts her sentence.

“Tita Che, where’s Tito Devi?” a sweet-soft voice coming from a cute little girl caught our attention.

Devi?

“He’s on his office, baby.” Ate Che gave her a smile before the little girl close the door.

“Where is Arrone?” I ask trying to get her attention back.

Her mood suddenly change when I asked about her younger brother.

“About Arrone...” She pause as if she’s hesistating to say what she want to tell me.

“What is about him?” I grip the comforter that covers my legs. “Ate, please, tell me, is he safe? Is he...is he okay?”

My pulse turns very fast as  I wait for her answer.

Please tell me that he’s fine. Tell me that he’s alive. Tell me that--

“He...he’s d-dead.”

My whole world fell apart when she finally gave her answer. Her words left me speechless. I feel like someone pours me a very cold water filled with ice.

I shake my head, not believing to what she has said. With my chest getting heavier and heavier as the time passed by, tears continuously scape from my eyes.

“No,” I utter. “T-that’s not true, A-arrone is alive!”

“After what happened to him that night, someone just left his body in front of our villa’gate,” she states. “We tried to brought him to the hospital but it was too late, he lost too much blood and his intestine was also very damage due to the multiple stabs—and t-that leads him to d-death.”

“It’s all my fault.”

I can’t putting all the blame on myself for what happened. I should be the one to die not him, not Arrone.

Only if I knew what would happen that night. I would refuse his offer to sent me home.

“I have to manage something.” I tried to get up from the bed but she immediately stops me from doing so. “Ate, let me go, I’ll definitely kill that bastard.”

“No, Heather, Devi would literally punish you if you try to leave this place.” I did not listen to her and went straight to the door. “Heather, stop!”

The image of a tall, masculine, and familiar man is blocking the door when I open it. It was him. The man inside the Quematon’s house and the one who’s talking with Arron that day when I try to spy on him.

“Where are you going?” he ask with a cold, low-toned voice.

“I have to manage something.” I answer, looking up at him.

“Something?” He cross his arms and walk towards me. I take a step backward. “Where’s the brave and tricky woman who deceive me way back to the time that you trespass my friend’s house?”

He raise his left brow and gave me smirk in a sarcastic manner but it didn’t last long. His emotion turns serious again. “Go back to your bed, you:re not going anywhere.”

“Can’t you understand? Arrone was killed--”

“I know.” He cuts my sentence. “That’s why I ordered my men to abduct you.”

“I came here voluntarily!” I emphasized.

“That is called manipulation —it was planned, congratulations, you got tricked, Agent Black!” He smirks, emphasizing my code name.

How did he find out?

“Leave us,” he firmly ordered.

Everyone inside the immediately follow his order and leave the room, even Arrone elder sister.

“Tell me the truth.” His deep and intimidating voice demands. He locks the door before he face me again.

“What truth?” I ask, looking at him directly.

“Every single truth you hide.” He cross his arms in front of him and leans his back against the wall.

“You told me to tell the truth, not my secrets.” I manage not to look frightened with his presence. “I won’t say a word, I don’t know who you really are!”

He gave me a deadly glare after I said those words. He looks annoyed.

“But you told me before that you have my files, Am I right?” he ask seriously.

“Still, I can’t trust someone like you!”

“So why did you trust my men?” he asks, trying to contradict every single word I said and use it against me. “Why did you trust yourself?”

His smile widen when he saw how my emotion reacts with the questions that he throws to me.

“You’re just like me, you’re not also a trustworthy kind of person, right?”

It kills me. He’s right but it hurts. It feel like my heart is tearing into pieces.

“How did you met Arrone?”

“H-he saved me,” I answer, my voice was shaking as my vision gets blurry.

He chuckles. “He save you...yet you still betrayed him.”

“I never betray him, I can’t do that thing to him!” I denied. “I love Arrone, I can’t do such thing to him!”

“You did, he died inside your house with the hand of your fiance’s men, you made him fall to your traps because he is your target that time!” he exclaims with his furious face. “You’re a traitor, Agent Black!”

“Yes!” I shouted. “He is my target that time, that d*mon or my so called fiance ordered me to spy on him and kill him after but I didn’t obey him because I love him more than myself even his parents are the reason why Benedict lost his parents!”

“Don’t insert another matter, Heather, confess everything before I find out the truth, with my connections, nothing is impossible and if I found out everything I will order my men to kill you.” His voice calms a bit but it is still full of authority.

“I have nothing to confess, I never betrayed Arrone.”

He just gives me a deadly glare before slamming the door and leaving me alone inside this room.

I hug myself while bursting into tears. My chest feels very heavy with those accusations.

Why do I need to experience this? It’s so unfair.
