Chapter Four: Interview

I had a horrible sleep last night. Overthinking everything that could go wrong in my interview. What if they laugh at me for clearly being an amateur editor and just wanted me to come to have more to laugh at.

I look over at the clock on my night stand and it reads 5:47am. Well there is no way that I am getting anymore sleep so i roll out of bed and slink onto the floor and crawl to the bathroom. So it's going to be one of those mornings. I stand up and turn my light on and look at myself in the mirror. Luckily the bags under my eyes aren't that noticeable. I start my day with doing my skincare and brushing my teeth.

Okay, I can turn this day around. I head back to my room and put on some leggings, a hoodie and my favourite sneakers. I think a run will help clear my head and make me feel better. I throw my headphones on and grab my keys and phone. I turn on my "Girly Pop Hype" music to help boost my confidence. I jog down the stairs of my apartment and into the lobby. I set my watch to track my run and off I go.

This was probably the best thing I could have done for myself. I ran for about and hour and definitely worked up a decent sweat but I has feeling so much better and overall more prepared for this interview. On my way back to my apartment I stopped at the cafe to get a little breakfast and a coffee.

As if the universe is trying to play tricks on me, as I walk in I see Sam at the cash and he makes a suspicious face.

"What's up with you this morning?" I smile at him as he takes my order.

He's smiling ear to ear, "You're crush just sat down over there, I think he might be your stalker or something." He hands me my receipt and I walk over to the pick up counter. I don't dare turn to look at him.

"Is he looking this way?" I ask Sam nervously. He tries to slyly look behind me without being obvious.

"He keeps glancing over here, maybe you should join him." Sam sends me a wink and I smack his arm over the counter. I take my coffee and sandwich from him and move to sit on the opposite side of the cafe, pretending that I didn't know he was here. As I sit down and take a sip from my coffee, I hear someone clear their throat. I turn and look up to see Spencer.

"Mind if I join you?" He gestures to the empty seat beside me, not across, and I nod. He slides into the booth next to me.

"Sorry I didn't see you sitting there. What are you doing here so early?" I take out my sandwich and start eating.

"I like to come here before I go to work. I've grown accustom to their cinnamon buns." He does a little side smile as he looks into his coffee and I swear I almost chocked on my food. He continues, looking back at me, "What are you doing up so early. Looks like you just went for a run."

In that moment I realized I probably look like a sweaty tomato and my stomach drops.

"Uh, yea. I had a pretty bad sleep and was up early so I thought a run would help clear my head. Figured I'd stop here for something to eat before I went home to shower. Sorry I probably smell bad." I slide a little further away from him. Up until now I hadn't realized how close Spencer had been when he sat down. I now feel a draft on my right side that was once occupied by his closeness.

"Honestly, you still smell great. And don't stress too much about your interview, I'll actually be in there since they are hiring you for my department. So at least you'll have one friendly face in the room." He smiles at me. The look in his eyes distracts me. With the angle of the sun coming in from the window at this hour, I notice that his eyes seem to light up. Trying to mentally decide if his eyes are a light hazel with green or a dark green with blue.

"Earth to (Y/N), you still there?" He laugh a little uncomfortably. I blink and regain my thoughts.

"I'm so sorry, just kinda zoned out." I look down at my hands and start playing with my nails, a nervous tick that started when I was little. Spencer pulls his phone out and checks the time.
