CHAPTER 2 : ENAMOURED
RAYNE
"Hey, Rayne. You're up early." Max, my roommate, acknowledged my presence the moment I stepped out of the bathroom. "The Headmaster is summoning me." I answered dryly as I grabbed my upper clothing and quickly put it on, followed by my Adler cloak.
"You've been out with Mr. Wahlberg quite often. Is everything alright?" He inquired as he sat on his bed. "I'll find out later on." I responded, which made him nod.
"Oh." I landed my gaze at Max upon his reaction but remained silent. "People arrived at the academy this morning. They're quite in a panic looking for Mr. Wahlberg." He informed me.
"Why?" I inquired. "What I heard is their daughter left their mansion." He said, which made me turn to face him directly. The situation is very familiar; could it be the girl from before?
"I'm heading out first," I said and quickly stepped out of our shared room and made my way to the chamber of the headmaster. Reaching the location as fast as I could. I entered the room and was greeted by a heavy atmosphere.
There stood the two familiar faces that we had visited days ago. Terror and fear were engraved in their faces as their swollen eyes landed on me.
The mother quickly strided her way towards me and held me in her hand. "Please, Rayne! Help us find our daughter." She pleaded, tears escaping her eyes as her hold on my hands tightened.
"Hana, don't give the young man any pressure. This is our fault." The husband spoke up, dignity within his voice, which made his wife cry even more. Feeling so hopeless that she ended up falling to the ground, which made me help her get up.
"What happened?" I asked, which was unable to be answered by this lady because of being overwhelmed with emotion. "We were waiting for [name] at the banquet for breakfast as usual, but she didn't show up. We searched and searched around the house but couldn't find her, and we found this paper." The husband explained and walked towards me, giving me a piece of paper.
"I don't know who that could be and how this happened. It's impossible that my daughter knows someone outside because, since she knows that she is cursed, she refuses to go out or do something that a normal human does." The husband continues as he tried his very best to compose himself.
I turned to read what was written on the paper. "Magical pole-arm?" My eyes went up to see Mr. Wahlberg was already looking at me. "Magical pole-arm that was said to be able to cut through her curse." Mr. Wahlberg spoke as he slowly let himself float down from his seat.
"As desperate as she was, she'd believe that scheme so quickly." Mr. Wahlberg added. "Ramlo, I'll be sending some bureau of magic into your house to question your workers. Rayne will go and search for your daughter." My gaze went to Mr. Wahlberg, who was waiting for the man he called Ramlo to agree, which he eventually accepted.
"Please, bring my girl safe." Mr. Ramlo spoke as he came near me, reaching his wife, who was still holding me in my hand. I bowed my head and nodded in response to him.
They said farewell before leaving the place and turning around to face Mr. Wahlberg. "Why me?" I inquired, which made the old man chuckle a little.
"In that girl's case, she needs to have someone to believe in. She no longer trusts her own parents and thinks that she's nothing but a burden; that is why she acted on the thought that whatever was written in that paper was going to help her ease her suffering." Mr. Wahlberg spoke, yet I can't seem to understand why it has to be me.
"If you're wondering why I chose you, it's because I can feel that the two of you already met the moment she saw you that day." My gaze met Mr. Wahlberg, and his usual smile is pasted on his lips. Nothing could escape this old man's eyes.
"And you don't usually relax around someone so easily." He added, which made me step back; he chuckled at my reaction. Did I what?
"The kids are in pursuit of her; you can follow after them since I asked them to leave traces that are visible to you." He informed me, causing me to scoff. "If you already had her followed, then why summon me?" I inquired, trying to hide my annoyed tone.
"Because she needed someone to believe in, and you can only do it." And with that, he vanished, leaving me alone inside his chamber. A sigh escaped my lips as I walked out the door. I couldn't disagree anymore since it was stated as my mission.
Standing at the staircase of the academy, I was greeted by the scene of a forest swiftly swaying with the breeze of the wind.
'And you don't usually relax around someone so easily.' I shook my head to ignore those words that came out of that old man's mouth and cast out my partisan to ride on.
notes: a very short chapter because my writer's block paid me a visit, will do better on the next chapter. mwaa
