TargetThe day had been chaotic from the start. I couldn't help but sigh. Halloween had crept up on us, and I was in full momma-mode, chasing after three girls with very different ideas about what they wanted.
It didn't help that there were tonnes of people already here, making this place busy as hell.
"Momma, I wanna be a princess and a Ninja Turtle." Raiya declared, while walking beside the cart.
I don't know where she got a hold of a pink tutu and a green mask, but she had those two things in her hands.
I paused and blinked at her. "A princess and a turtle?"
She nodded so hard that when she stopped, she stumbled. "I'm gonna be both."
Jadah rolled her eyes from behind us, tugging Akira along. "Raiya, you don't even know which Turtle you wanna be."
"Donatello." Raiya shot back without hesitation. "He the smart one. Right, Akira?" She asked for confirmation from her sister and got a nod in return.
"Alright, Donatello-Princess." I said, reaching for a sparkly tiara to complete her vision. "Let's make it happen."
Akira had already picked out her costume. It was a unicorn onesie with glittery boots. She was thinking practically, not wanting to be cold. "I'm ready, momma. Can we get candy now?"
"We'll get candy in a minute." I said, patting her head. "Let's make sure Raiya gets everything she needs." Or I won't hear the end of how k ruined her Halloween.
Jadah, of course, was the easiest. She'd chosen something simple. It was a cat outfit. All she head was the cat ears and a black nose, and that was it. She paired it with a leather jacket she already owned. It was a low maintenance choice.
"Yaya, let me see." Jadah said, stepping in to adjust the tutu Raiya was holding. "If you're gonna be a Turtle and a princess, at least let me make sure it don't look dumb."
"It ain't gonna look dumb!" Raiya protested, but she let Jadah help anyway.
With costumes finally settled, we headed to the candy aisle. Raiya and Akira were tossing everything into the cart.
"Momma." Jadah said, her voice low as she leaned toward me. "You know this is too much candy, right?"
I raised an eyebrow at her. "Honestly? It ain't enough. Plus, we need some for the other kids in the neighbourhood."
"Fine." She said with a shrug, but I caught the small smile she tried to hide.
After what felt like an eternity, we finally made it to the checkout line. But of course, Raiya had one more request.
"Momma, can I put my costume on now? I wanna wear it to the party."
I sighed, glancing at the clock. The party had already started, and we were already late, so I didn't care. "Alright, but you're putting it on in the changing room. I'm not doing this in the middle of the store."
"Okay!" She said, grabbing the bag with her costume and running towards the fitting rooms.
Jadah shook her head as she watched her sister disappear. "She's gonna make that tutu look so weird."
"She's Raiya." I said with a laugh, shrugging. Then we followed after her, with all our purchases.
By the time we pulled up to Onika's parents' house, the party was in full swing. The yard was decorated with cobwebs, pumpkins, and bright ass glowing lights. I wasn't too nervous to be around other members of Onika's family. I was good with people, that was my thing. Unless they were asses, then that would be a problem.
