"i don't even remember the season. i just remember walking between them and feeling for the first time that i belonged somewhere."

― stephen chbosky, the perks of being a wallflower

there's a group of friends.

you always see them together.
they're not the most
popular people at school,
but they shine.

they sit together at lunch,
always at the back of the school
under the old oak tree;
laughing,
joking with each other,
and content with one another.

they're not the best
of the students;
they skip school
sometimes,
get into trouble,
make mistakes,
and aren't the very smartest
in their class,
but they shine
bright in the crowd.

they're not the loudest
group of people,
but their clique is unique.

they keep to themselves,
but are well known
and liked in the year level.
they're in their own world,
yet always seem to know
what's going on in the real world.
you can see how comfortable
they are with each other,
when in class they a sit
near each other,
just content being
in each other's presence.
they don't need
to always talk,
they can communicate
with silence too.
unspoken words,
left in the cold chilly air.
some of the people at school
are like air;
either have just air
in their brain,
and are the most
stupidest people on the planet,
or have the personality
like ice,
but not them,
for they shine like stars.

some students say
that they're weird;
they don't have anything
in common
yet they're all close friends
and have each other's backs.

one is quiet
and peaceful,
another is loud
and obnoxious,
the others;
humble;
friendly;
imaginative;
lost;
yet they all balance
since they shine as
luminous as the sun.

their group all have
different interests
and personalities,
yet they're connected;
not by the years of friendship;
nor the adventurous experiences
they've embarked together;
but by their b o n d.
