Hyunjin was dead asleep on the couch, and Chan figured that Felix and Jisung had probably scented him a bit too much- even if it was for the better. Especially when the strange man finally woke up. The strange man who was somehow Hyunjin's father. Chan could vaguely see the resemblance- even if he didn't really want to.

Currently, he was watching the stranger with a close eye from his place on the love seat as Felix and Jisung trapped Hyunjin on the couch between them in a pile. Minho was pacing the room, glaring at the man every time he even so much as twitched unconsciously.

By the time the man woke up- tied securely to one of the kitchen chairs that they dragged in the living room, his back to the fireplace, Changbin and the betas returned looking... agitated at best. Chan gave the man in the chair a few moments to collect himself as he turned from his place on the couch to the trio.

"Give me the phone," Changbin opened his palm to Jeongin, and the youngest wordlessly passed his phone over so that he could shove the screen in the man's face. He blinked at the sudden brightness, but Changbin didn't move the device away. "Why did you post this? Huh?" He got in the stranger's face, almost nose to nose. "Is this some kind of sick joke? So that you could find your son and terrorize him when he finally found some peace from you?"

"Changbin," Chan warned, standing up to take the phone away from him. Minho curiously approached and the others remained on the couch as Hyunjin napped in his drunken stupor. He took the phone to see the ad posted on the screen- a missing persons report for a 'Hwang Hyunjin' and a fairly recent picture of him from what must have been a few years ago.

Chan slowly set the phone down, more understanding of Changbin's anger now that he felt it himself. He crouched in front of the chair so that he could look into the man's dark eyes. "You posted a missing persons report for your son? Was he even missing?"

"No," the man- Hwang Chul, as stated on the ad- admitted, though he didn't look too guilty about it. In fact- he had the audacity to look amused even tied down to a chair. "He wasn't missing. But he's always been a piece of work- even when he was younger. After he moved out and ignored my calls, I needed a way to make sure he didn't get into any shady business." Dark eyes lingered, "turns out I was right."

"Piece of work?" Minho angrily repeated, shoving Chan to the side so that he could get a good look at Hwang Chul, placing a hand on the shoulder of the wooden chair to peer down at him. "What is that supposed to mean?"

Silence flooded the room with only the puffs of Hyunjin's sleepy breath until Minho's eyes widened, and Chan seemed to realize it only a moment later than the other alpha. The wood underneath Minho's hand splintered. "You beat him?"

And it would explain it- the nightmares, the wishing to move into an entire new town with no family or friends to speak of, the way he flinched and had so little self worth that it hurt.

Even if everything in Chan wanted to let Minho beat the man in front of him- he grabbed him by the shoulder and pushed him to sit on the couch next to the pile sleeping wolves. (Well- one sleeping wolf because while Hyunjin napped, Felix and Jisung curled around him protectively and glared at the man like they could melt him.)

"I tossed him around sometimes," Hwang Chul shrugged, like he was talking about the weather rather than admitting to child abuse. "But it's what every kid needs- so that they can grow tough. Apparently- I wasn't rough enough with him. Look at how he turned out."
