Chapter 115: A Man's Conversation

Having passed Miao Mama’s interrogation, Song Yimo turned her soft eyes toward the silent Miao Dad, her tone just as gentle. “Miao Dad…”

Miao Jun, looking leaner these days, had sharper features that lent him an even sterner air.

But he didn’t chide her; instead, he simply placed a hand on her shoulder and said, “You’ve got to let us adults do what we’re meant to do. If you try to carry everything alone, you make us look pretty useless, don’t you?”

“I won’t anymore.”

“Good. Just remember that.” Miao Jun walked over to where Grandma Song stood in the kitchen doorway, and the two went inside to talk.

He Yi gave a huff. “Always pushing me to play the villain. Let me tell you, Yimo, your Miao Dad was furious when he found out. I told him I’d come back alone to handle it, but he wouldn’t have it. Practically dragged me into the car, and I had to call the shop to get everything sorted on the way here.”

“Miao Mama, I’ll try not to be so thoughtless again.”

He Yi looked at her with a helpless smile. “If you keep being so ‘thoughtful,’ we’ll be even less needed. Alright then, come and explain what’s been going on.”

Song Yimo threw a small smile to Zhai Muyang, then took Miao Mama by the hand and led her to her room.

Miao Zhiruo brushed back her hair. “Zhai Dage, my parents care a lot about Yimo. It’s nothing personal…”

“I understand.” Zhai Muyang smiled, glancing around at the messy living room. “Let’s tidy up a bit. Then once they’re done talking, we can all go grab lunch.”

In the kitchen, Grandma Song explained everything from beginning to end, not holding back any details about the house. “I don’t think Yimo knew about it in advance. Back when Muyang hadn’t returned, she said she’d rent a place for the time being, but since it’s break now, she was looking to buy a suitable apartment to settle down in.”

Miao Jun nodded slightly. “Yimo’s the last person to take advantage of others. If she’s comfortable staying here, it means she really trusts Muyang. Muyang’s shown some thoughtfulness, too. So for now, let her stay. Later, I’ll ask my mom to get our place ready in case they’d rather move over there. Even if things go south, they’ll always have somewhere to stay. As for buying a place…”

Miao Jun’s brow furrowed. “Yimo should know things are tight for me right now; I won’t be able to pay her back anytime soon. Does she have enough to cover a house?”

“Oh, yes, plenty. A few months ago, she even showed me her bankbook—she’d already saved enough then.” Grandma Song couldn’t help but look proud. “Imagine, such a young girl earning so much! I’m relieved and proud, but also a bit uneasy. And her grades keep improving every term. I have no grounds to stop her even if I wanted to.”

Grandma Song sighed deeply, casting a concerned glance at Miao Jun. “If you get a chance, talk to her. She’s got enough saved up already. High school is demanding enough—she shouldn’t be wearing herself out with side work. What if it takes a toll on her health?”

“Yimo knows what she’s doing. Muyang and I are keeping an eye on her. You needn’t worry.”

She sighed again. “She’s pushing herself too hard, even had you and He Yi rushing back from Mang City. Business there doing alright?”

“The business is doing well. I left in such a rush today that I forgot to bring some fruit back. Have you finished the last batch we brought?”

Grandma Song shook her head. “There’s still plenty left from the last time. In this weather, things spoil quickly, so it’s better not to bring more right now.”
