It was late at night when she woke up from the thunderous sound of lightning outside, and the wind howling agent the window which did not help in the slightest. She woke with a startled and fearful gasp as she heard the sound, tears already started to collect in her eyes. She hated loud noises, and she certainly hated thunder.
Normally kids would scream when woken up by something so frightening, but not Adeline. No no no; not her. She gets so scared that her voice is lost, a lump in her throat that wants out but can't find its way out.'Where was Papa, she wants Papa!'
Little Adeline thought as more thunder boomed outside. Quickly hiding under her covers, which were soft and silky; she couldn't help but tremble as fear took hold of her.
After a few minutes had passed, she couldn't find it in herself to fall back asleep. Knowing it was gonna be hopeless to fall back into Dreamland, Adeline decided that she must venture out of the safety of her blankets to find the one person that's always there for her.Carefully, Adeline crawled out from under her covers, and then wrapped around herself her soft pink blanket with pink silk frills on the outer sides of it. The young 8 year old owlet was so small that the blanket reached all the way down her, just barely missing the ground. Being gifted with sight capable of navigating through the dark, she made her way through her dark bedroom with ease, but still shivering a little from fear. Her Papa's sleeping quarters were only 3 rooms down, so she thankfully didn't have to walk very far. Upon reaching the door to her Papa's bedroom, she quickly took notice of his door being closed. Which was odd considering that he always sleeps with his door open. Not thinking too much of it in her current state, she was about to knock, asking if he was there when she heard an all too familiar voice behind the door. Looking down, she now noticed a bit of light peeking out from the door frame.
What was going on? Was Papa already up, and if so why? Questions started filling the child's head as she was very confused. However all those questions stopped all at once when another, and much louder; sound of thunder erupted from outside. Now unable to control herself, tears started to fall from the young owlet's eyes. With a now shaky wing, she brought it up to the door, wanting nothing more but to be cradled and hugged by her Papa.***
Meanwhile just behind the door, a Long-eared owl was rehearsing a speech inside his bedroom. He knew he was supposed to be asleep by this time, but he couldn't stop the uneasy dread of messing up his speech. So here he was, practicing his speech in the middle of the night.
"And therefore; if we are able to cast an electrocution spell on an energy source, then hypothetically we should be able to increase someone's power supply by-!" Before he was able to rehearse the line for what must have been the 10th time already, he was startled by the sound of knocking coming from his door. That in itself was odd. Who in the world would be knocking on his bedroom door? One of the maids perhaps? But then a voice came from the other side of the door."Papa; are you awake?" That was Adeline's voice, Why was she up? "Yes dear, is there a problem? Why are you up sweetie?
He could just barely make out the sound of sniffling behind the door. What was he. . .. -Wait, is she crying? Why was she crying?!
Quickly he made his way over to the door, now completely forgetting about his speech papers which had fallen out from his wings. Upon opening the door, he was met with a sight that broke him. There wrapped up in her favorite pink blanket, with tears running down her face and clearly shaking, was his darling daughter Adeline. Distressed, he quickly crouched down to better look at her to see what had caused her to be in such a state."Adeline sweetheart! Whatever is the matter? Why are u crying?"
The little owlet was about to answer when another strike of thunder could be heard. Not even a second later, she bolted herself onto him, hugging him as she cried her golden eyes out. The much older Long-eared owl wasted no time and hugged her back, comforting his distressed daughter. Hushing her and trying to stop her tears.
"There there darling; everything is alright. Shh, shh; Papa is right here dear, everything is alright."
