In a far-off country, ruled by a kind king and a ruthless queen, there lived a beautiful princess known for her beauty. Every maiden envied her looks and every gentleman gawked at her beauty. Her most beautiful feature was her long golden hair, granting her the nickname of golden-haired goddess. The kingdom eagerly awaited the day the beautiful princess would marry the equally handsome prince of the neighboring kingdom, hoping to unite the kingdoms and to birth the most beautiful heirs the world has ever seen. That day was today, the long-awaited proposal of Princess Evangeline and Prince Luis; and it is also where our story begins.

Despite the townspeople's belief that Princess Evangeline was a dainty, elegant girl, she was in fact the opposite. Evangeline despised long, puffy dresses and heavy jewelry. She especially despised the length of her hair, since it always got in the way, but was never allowed to cut it (a rule created by her mother). She much preferred pants and loose fitted shirts which she could easily move in. She enjoyed her long lessons with her father on the kingdom's history and loved to read about world surrounding the kingdom. Evangeline particularly took interest in the tales of elves, sprites, and mermaids. She had to hide her interest in these things, for her mother despised these childish tales. Evangeline's mother often scolded her for boyish behavior and demanded she become more lady-like. She was dressed in the most luxurious gowns and jewels, especially on today since she was going to be proposed to by, what her mother called, her future husband. Evangeline especially despised that part of today. Forget uncomfortable clothing and heavy jewelry, Prince Luis was the most obnoxious figurehead she had met to date. He was a narcissistic, pretty boy who would rather spend his time riding horses than learning about his country's history and trying to prepare for his eventual receiving of the crown. Ever since they were little, Prince Luis had taken little interest in his studies and spent most of his time in town flirting with girls or playing with swords. Princess Evangeline had put up a fight since day one when she was told she had to marry Prince Luis, despite her mother's unwillingness to change her mind about the arranged marriage. Evangeline, however, was not going to let some moronic prince rule her country, so she devised a plan. She would run away till her mother and father granted her rule over her kingdom and gave her the right to choose her future partner. Her plan was to escape right before the royal banquet, as the guards would be distracted with having to deal with the citizens and the incoming royalty. But until then, she had to play the nice, obedient princess role.

"Princess! Princess Evangeline! Are you awake? Prince Luis shall be arriving soon!" exclaimed her maid, Eliza. Eliza had always been nice to Princess Evangeline; she was almost like a sister to her. She was the one person Princess Evangeline was going to miss when she left the palace. She wished she could take Eliza with her, but she knew that Eliza would never accept.

"Understood! Thank you, Eliza, I'll be downstairs in a minute!" Princess Evangeline exclaimed back. Evangeline quickly rushed to get ready, throwing on a long, pale yellow, lacy dress, one Eliza had picked out for her the day before. She put on some pearl earrings and a pearl necklace, and then slipped on a pair of yellow flats, since she refused to wear heels. Evangeline brushed her long golden hair and put on some lipstick, hoping it would be enough makeup to appease her mother. She then ran out of her room, closing the door behind her, and headed for the kitchen to grab a quick breakfast.

Once she retrieved her breakfast from the kitchen, she sat down in the palace garden to eat. She had just bitten into her omelet when a loud band of trumpets suddenly erupted. Not even a moment after, Eliza had run up to Evangeline and proclaimed that Prince Luis had arrive. Princess Evangeline sighed, and reluctantly got up, taking a last bite of her breakfast, and thanked Eliza before heading off.

Evangeline hurried to the throne room, and when she arrived, she saw her mother, Queen Amelia, sitting in her throne, with her father, King Henry, next to her in his throne.
