Ashely trudged out of the moving truck, her black combat boots scuffling against the pavement. She was still reeling from the breakup with her boyfriend, Ryan. It had been a messy, emotional affair, and Ashely was relieved to be escaping the toxic relationship.
As she began to unload the truck, a bubbly voice interrupted her thoughts.
"Hey, need some help?"
Ashely turned to see a bright-smiling, blonde-haired girl bounding toward her. She was dressed in a crisp white shirt and khaki shorts, looking like a poster child for the college's student council.
Taylor, the blonde girl, flashed Ashely a friendly smile. "I'm Taylor, your neighbor! I saw the moving truck and thought I'd lend a hand."
Ashely's gaze narrowed, her eyes scanning Taylor's peppy demeanor. She found it... grating.
"Uh, thanks," Ashely muttered, not bothering to hide her disinterest. "I've got it."
Taylor, however, seemed oblivious to Ashely's chilly reception. She continued to chat and help Ashely unload the truck, completely undeterred by Ashely's monosyllabic responses.
As they worked, Taylor couldn't help but sneak glances at Ashely. She was striking, with her raven-black hair, piercing green eyes, and intricate tattoos. Taylor found herself drawn to Ashely's edgy beauty, despite the girl's prickly demeanor.
Meanwhile, Ashely was growing increasingly annoyed with Taylor's relentless cheeriness. She couldn't believe her bad luck – she'd just escaped a toxic relationship, and now she was stuck with a neighbor who seemed determined to drive her crazy.
As Taylor helped Ashely carry the last of her boxes into the apartment, Ashely's relief grew. She couldn't wait to finally be alone and shut the door on this annoyingly cheerful girl.
"Thanks for the help," Ashely muttered, already heading for the door.
Taylor, still beaming with friendliness, started to ask, "So, Ashely, what made you decide to move here? Do you have any—"
But before Taylor could finish her question, Ashely slammed the door shut, leaving Taylor standing alone in the hallway.
Taylor's smile faltered for a moment, but she quickly rebounded, her cheerfulness undiminished. "Goodnight, Ashely!" she called out loudly, her voice echoing through the hallway.
There was no response from the other side of the door, but Taylor didn't seem to mind. She skipped off down the hallway, whistling a happy tune as she went.
Meanwhile, Ashely leaned against the door, her eyes closed in relief. She couldn't believe she'd finally managed to get rid of Taylor. But as she stood there, she couldn't shake the feeling that this wasn't the last she'd seen of her annoyingly cheerful neighbor....
Ashely woke up before dawn, hoping to avoid another encounter with her annoyingly cheerful neighbor. She quickly got dressed and slipped out of her apartment, intent on making a beeline for the lobby.
But as she turned the corner, she collided with a bouncing ball of energy – Taylor.
"Hey, Ashely! Good morning!" Taylor chirped, flashing a bright smile.
Ashely's eyes narrowed. "How do you know my name?" she asked gruffly.
Taylor's smile faltered for a moment before she recovered. "Oh, I saw it on one of your boxes yesterday. I'm Taylor, by the way."
Ashely raised an eyebrow. "We're neighbors."
Taylor nodded enthusiastically. "I know! And it gets even better – we go to the same university! Isn't that awesome?"
