XXI. Billy Boys.

Maude sat in her home office, doing some last-minute paperwork before she and Tommy, along with their kids, had to attend Ruby's birthday party at Henry and Lizzie's home. It had been a few days since the meeting with Michael in the Garrison, and things had been quiet. The only trouble Maude had now was Linda making Maude her new confidant. And the things Linda said, could cause a whole lot of problems in the family.

The office door opened and Maude looked up from her work, smiling when she saw her husband walk in. Tommy rounded the desk and placed a small kiss on the top of her head. "I hear Linda was here today," he said as he rounded the desk again and sat down in front of it.

"She needed someone to talk to," Maude replied as she nodded her head while putting away her files and papers. "She used to always talk with Esme, but she's gone now. Polly's mean sometimes. She thinks Lizzie's still a whore. And Anna doesn't like her." she explained as she shrugged her shoulders.

"So she came to you," Tommy replied as he pointed at his wife and she hummed while nodding her head. "Thought you didn't like her either?" he asked as he raised his eyebrows.

"Sometimes I don't," Maude replied as she sighed, folding her arms on the table. She didn't like Linda most of the time. But after hearing how miserable and scared Linda was in her marriage, part of her felt bad for the blonde. "But I don't think Linda's a bad person. I just think she doesn't fit in with our family," she explained as she shook her head. "We're all fucked in the head, and we think she's the crazy one because she's not like us."

"What did she talk about?" he asked curiously as he raised his eyebrows again.

"A letter she wrote Arthur. About all her feelings. Said he burned the letter."She explained as she stood up and rounded her desk. Tommy opened his arms, letting his wife sit down on his lap."She had a lot to say about you, my love." she told him as she reached up to brush her fingers across his cheek.

"Yeah?" he asked as one hand rested on her hip and the other on her thigh, holding her close to himself. "What did she say?" he asked as he raised his eyebrows again.

"You are the one who lost all our legitimate money in America." She said as her hand reached down to rest on Tommy's chest, playing with his tie. "She knows you went into Chinatown and sold out the commies to the British intelligence. Knows your fixing races and football matches." she continued.

Tommy scoffed as he slowly shook his head. "Arthur tells her everything." he spat bitterly, and Maude quirked an eyebrow at him being a hypocrite because he told her everything as well.

There was silence for a moment as Maude continued to play with Tommy's tie. She sighed, pulling her lips into a tight line before hesitantly looking at Tommy. "You know, she asked if I've ever considered writing you a letter," she told him.
