   right after season 3

when el goes to indiana to visit mike for thanksgiving

   el's POV:

El stared out the clear plane window as it flew at incredible speeds through the air. She sat with her pretty small bag on her lap-she didn't have extra money to put it up top-calming examining the sights out the window. Dozens of white, fluffy clouds, bushes of trees thousands of feet below her, the dazzling blue sky shining a cozy light on her little comfortable nook on the plane.

"You like looking out the window, El? It's pretty, huh? You don't get to see things like this often." Mike asked El in a quiet, soft voice. He had one arm around her shoulder that was closet to the window, sitting at her left. The two of them were flying to Hawkins for Thanksgiving-Mike came to Lenora first so he could fly with her-and they were joined with Will and Johnathan sitting in the seats behind them.

"Yes, it's really pretty." El smiled at Mike, looking away from the window for a few seconds to take in the beauty of his features. His brown eyes, his flawless cheekbones, his playful smile. She loved everything about him.

Suddenly, the flight attendant came over to ask if they would like anything to drink or eat. El was overwhelmed by the choices of food on a plane, so Mike ordered a bag of chips and a soda for both of them. But there was something else, maybe it was the way the lady was eyeing Mike, or the way she sashayed near him, but El didn't like it. It made her feel...uneasy.

Once she had gave Mike one last smile and walked away, El gave Mike a unsafe look. "What's wrong, El?" He asked, sensing she was off.

"I didn't like that lady. She treated you...different." El said, looking over the seat to where she could see the same flight attendant offering snacks to other people. El frowned at her.

"Different..." Mike questioned, trying to understand. "Like, how?"

El didn't get how he couldn't notice this, but she decided to explain anyway. After all, he was her boyfriend, and Max had said that boyfriends are dumb in the past. She giggled in her head at the memory, and then refocused to the annoyance she was still experiencing.

"She...looked at you weird. And smiled. And got close to you." It made El mad just thinking about it. Did that lady, for some reason...like Mike the same way she did?

"Oh, um, that's weird. I'm sorry El, I didn't notice that. But I won't try to be friendly to her anymore, okay? I'll just ignore her when she comes back with the food." Mike reassured El, giving her an affectionate kiss on her cheek. She rested her head on his shoulder, feeling better now, of course.

"Hello, El! How have you been?" Karen said with a friendly grin as she opened the door for the group. Mike and El stepped in first, followed by Will and Johnathan. Mike's mom said hello to them as well, and Mike showed El where to put her shoes and hang up her coat. As she did so, she could feel the warm, cozy air of the Wheeler's house and smell the aroma of many delicious Thanksgiving foods.

As Nancy came down the stairs and embraced Johnathan with a hug and several kisses, El, Mike and Will decided to watch tv until dinner was ready. Holly was playing with her light brite on the floor, and Ted was asleep on his lazy boy as usual, a newspaper sprawled across his torso.

After about 30 impatient minutes of the Flintstones, Mrs. Wheeler called to everyone that dinner was ready. The three friends raced excitedly and hungrily to the dinner table. Mrs. Wheeler, Johnathan and Nancy were setting the table and placing dishes of sides on it. After everything else was set in it's place, almost everyone had to help carry the turkey onto the dish on the table because it was so big.

By now everyone was seated around the table covered in yummy dishes, and they all took a moment to say what they were thankful for-since it was a Wheeler family tradition-before digging in. It was of the best days ever for El, she had never had so much amazing food at once. She felt like she was some sort of royalty, being fed only the finest of fine.

Everyone shared many laughs and casual conversations, and El felt as if everyone here was her real family. Never once did she think about Lenora Hills, or the lab, or her real mom, Terry Ives, even Hopper. All that was on El's mind was the fun times the people in front of her shared together, and even though she didn't know Mike's parents particularly well, she still felt very welcomed into their family. And, obviously, Mike had always been there to support her and love her, even when times were rough. El hoped it could stay just like this forever.
