Alex's eyes narrowed slightly, confusion etched on his face. "What do you mean?" he asked, his voice low and gentle.
Fiorella's eyes dropped, her gaze falling to the table as she fidgeted with her cup. "It's just that...nevermind," she said, her voice trailing off.
But Alex wasn't willing to let it go. He reached out, his hand covering hers as he gave it a gentle squeeze. "No, tell me," he said, his eyes locked on hers, filled with a warm, encouraging light.
Fiorella's heart skipped a beat as she felt Alex's hand on hers. It was a simple touch, but it sent a spark of electricity through her entire body. She looked up, her eyes meeting Alex's, and for a moment, they just stared at each other, the world around them melting away.
Fiorella gently pulled her hand out from under Alex's, breaking the spell that had been cast between them. She looked away, her eyes scanning the café as if searching for a distraction.
"We should go pick up the stuff Father Cole wants for the house," she said, her voice a little too bright, a little too forced.
Alex's eyes narrowed slightly, as if he sensed that Fiorella was trying to change the subject. But he didn't push the issue. Instead, he nodded, standing up and holding out his hand to help Fiorella up.
"Okay, let's go," he said, his voice neutral, but his eyes still holding a hint of curiosity, a hint of unfinished business.
As they walked out of the café, Fiorella felt a sense of relief wash over her. She wasn't sure why she had almost blurted out her suspicions about being the lost princess. It was a crazy idea, and she didn't want Alex to think she was losing her mind.
But as they strolled through the streets, Fiorella couldn't shake the feeling that something was off. She kept looking over her shoulder, feeling like she was being watched. Alex noticed her nervousness and put a reassuring hand on her arm.
"Hey, is everything okay?" he asked, his eyes scanning the surrounding area.
Fiorella forced a smile. "Yeah, I'm fine. Just a little paranoid, I guess."
Alex nodded, but his eyes lingered on hers, as if he knew she was hiding something.
As they approached the market, Fiorella's thoughts turned to the task at hand. Father Cole had given them a list of items to pick up for the house, and she was determined to get everything on the list.
But as they wandered through the stalls, Fiorella found herself distracted by the vendors' stories and the colorful wares on display. Alex, sensing her fascination, smiled and took her hand, leading her through the crowds.
For a moment, Fiorella forgot about the lost princess, forgot about Father Cole's list, and just enjoyed the simple pleasure of being with Alex in the vibrant market.
Atfer they done shopping
As they turned a corner, Fiorella's eyes landed on a familiar face - one of the royal guards. Her heart skipped a beat as their eyes met, and for a moment, they just stared at each other.
But before she could process what was happening, a loud honking sound filled the air, and Fiorella felt a surge of panic. A car was careening out of control down the street, heading straight for her.
Without hesitation, Alex yanked her arm, pulling her out of the way just in time. Fiorella felt herself flying through the air, her face heading straight for Alex's chest.
She landed with a soft thud, her face buried in Alex's abs. For a moment, they just stood there, frozen in time. Fiorella's heart was racing, and she could feel Alex's chest rising and falling with each breath.
As the car screeched to a halt behind them, Alex's arms wrapped around Fiorella, holding her close. "Are you okay?" he asked, his voice low and husky.
Fiorella nodded, still trying to process what had just happened. She slowly lifted her head, her face still inches from Alex's. Their eyes met, and for a moment, they just stared at each other, the world around them melting away.
As they stood there, locked in a silent understanding, Fiorella felt her heart pounding in her chest. She was acutely aware of Alex's arms around her, holding her close, and the warmth of his body against hers.
The sound of the car's horn and the murmurs of the crowd slowly brought Fiorella back to reality. She took a deep breath and stepped back, her eyes never leaving Alex's face.
"Thanks," she said, her voice barely above a whisper. "I owe you one."
Alex smiled, his eyes crinkling at the corners. "You don't owe me anything," he said, his voice low and gentle. "I'm just glad I was there to catch you."
Fiorella felt a flush rise to her cheeks as she looked away, trying to compose herself. She knew she had to get out of there before she made a fool of herself.
"Let's get out of here," she said, taking a step back. "We still have to finish Father Cole's list."
Alex nodded, falling into step beside her. "Yeah, let's go."
As they walked away from the scene, Fiorella couldn't shake the feeling that something had shifted between them. She glanced over at Alex, but his face was neutral, giving away nothing.
But Fiorella knew what she had felt - a spark of attraction that had ignited between them in that moment of danger. And she couldn't help but wonder if it would fade away, or if it would grow into something more.
