As they walked, Fiorella couldn't shake the feeling that they were being watched. She glanced over her shoulder, and her eyes landed on the royal guard from earlier. He was standing across the street, his eyes fixed intently on her.
Fiorella's brow furrowed in confusion. Why was he following her? She had told them. She had made it clear she wasn't interested in be a princess. But they are still trying.
"Fiorella?" Alex's voice broke into her thoughts. "Are you okay?"
Fiorella turned back to him, a little startled. "Huh? Yeah, I'm fine. Let's just continue shopping for Father Cole's list."
Alex nodded, but his eyes lingered on her face, as if searching for any sign of distress. Fiorella forced a smile, trying to reassure him that everything was fine.
But as they continued shopping, Fiorella couldn't shake the feeling that the royal guard was still watching her, waiting for his chance to approach her again. She quickened her pace, anxious to get back to the safety of Father Cole's house.
As they walked, Alex noticed that Fiorella seemed a bit distracted. She was constantly looking over her shoulder, and her eyes seemed to be scanning the crowds with a mixture of anxiety and fear.
"Hey, is everything okay?" Alex asked again, his voice low and concerned. "You seem a bit...on edge."
Fiorella hesitated, unsure of how much to reveal. But something about Alex's kind eyes and gentle tone put her at ease. "I think I'm just being paranoid," she said, trying to laugh it off. "I saw one of the royal guards earlier, and I think he might be following me."
Alex's expression turned serious. "Do you want me to go talk to him?" he asked, his voice firm and protective.
Fiorella shook her head, feeling a surge of gratitude towards Alex. "No, it's fine. I'm sure it's just my imagination."
But as they continued shopping, Fiorella couldn't shake the feeling that she was being watched. She kept looking over her shoulder, expecting to see the royal guard lurking in the shadows.
Finally, after what felt like an eternity, they finished shopping and made their way back to Father Cole's house. Fiorella felt a sense of relief wash over her as they stepped inside, feeling safe and protected within the familiar walls.
But as she turned to Alex, she saw that he was looking at her with a curious expression. "Fiorella, can I ask you something?" he said, his voice low and gentle.
Fiorella's heart skipped a beat as she wondered what he was going to ask. "What is it?" she asked, her voice barely above a whisper.
Alex's eyes locked onto hers, filled with a deep intensity. "What's going on with the royal guard?" he asked, his voice firm and direct. "Why do you think they're following you?"
Fiorella's eyes widened in surprise, and she felt a surge of panic at Alex's question. She hadn't expected him to be so perceptive, and she didn't know how to respond. She tried to brush it off, but Alex's intense gaze made her feel like he could see right through her.
"I...I don't know what you're talking about," Fiorella stammered, trying to sound convincing. But Alex's expression told her that he didn't believe her.
"Fiorella, I've seen the way you've been looking over your shoulder all day," Alex said, his voice gentle but firm. "I've seen the fear in your eyes. You can trust me. What's going on?"
Fiorella felt her face grow hot as she struggled to maintain the charade. She looked away, trying to break the intense gaze between them.
"I...I told you, there's nothing going on," she repeated, trying to sound calm. But her voice trembled slightly, betraying her true emotions.
