The Man I Didn't Know I Loved

3 1 1

I loved a man in my late teens,
He was also a teen, but to my eyes, thoughts, and dreams,
He looked and felt like a man,
I was in love, though I didn't fully understand.

Back then, I didn't know I loved him so,
But I knew he loved me, and that made me glow.
Unconditionally, his love gave me joy,
A happiness I thought would never destroy.

Now, two years later, I know him deep,
I worry about him, and that's when I weep.
I love him still, for he's the same,
The difference now, is just my frame.

The shift from assumption to reality,
Made me see things more clearly.
I regret that same IDGAF attitude,
But not for the love, more for the mood.

Sometimes, in my nightmares, I wonder if wrong,
But my love for him is still so strong.
Though he's grown, still, I understand,
I love the same man who's truly a man now.
