"LILAH,ARE YOU COMING?" Her older brother,Alexander's voice disrupted the girl as she dusted her face with a makeup brush "Hold on idiot." she cursed under her breath as she hurriedly finished her makeup,fluffing out her hair making sure it looked just right.
"Rafe and Sarah are in the car,come on." He spoke coldly,which didn't come as much of a surprise.Lilah hadn't even noticed his tone as she stared at her reflection,still in awe at her amazing outfit,she adjusted a strap on her flat sandals,since it was a beach party.
"Will there be pogues here?" Lilah asked "Probably,it's on their side of the island." Rafe,who was driving said "Great." Lilah groaned leaning on her hand "They're not,like,terrible you know Lilah." Sarah gave her best friend a smile "I admire your optimism so much Sarah,but that's the point,they're not terrible and neither are kooks,so why must they hate us so much? I hate them to."
"You really hate pogues?"
"Not all,I'm sure there's a few that are okay,and I don't hate them because they're pogues,or because of where they live,but every pogue i've met has made the decision they only like pogues."
"I guess." Sarah shrugged as she looked out the window,Lilah taking the moment to fix her hair again,noticing it had became flat due to Rafe having the roof on his jeep down.
The beach was crowded with teenagers,bonfires scattering the sand.Music blared from different speakers and Lilah tried to hide her excitement as she watched Sarah run into Topper's arms,who was waiting there for her.
Lilah wished wholeheartedly for someone like that.
She watched her brother unsurprisingly walk off with Rafe to some other kook guys they knew.She rolled her eyes and spotted Emily Riordan,a girl she knew only slightly from school,but Emily had a case of fruity cocktails and Lilah was planning on drinking the weeks stress away.
"Hey Lilah." Emily smiled and immediately handed the raven haired girl a drink "Be careful that stuff is super strong." Emily was clearly already drunk.
Lilah watched the pogues,she watched JJ Maybank,who was getting closer as he walked around talking to people.
"Oh god." She rolled her eyes as his gaze met where she sat with Emily and two other girls,each of them squealing when they saw the blonde boy coming over "Why are you so excited? he is probably the most irritating person on earth." Lilah scrunched her nose in disgust,JJ went to her school as well as she had seen him at parties,they had quite a few run ins and it was safe to say they despised eachtoher.
"If it isn't the Outer Banks very own kook princess." JJ laughed,taking an uninvited seat on a log across from Lilah "If it isn't the dirtiest white boy in America." Lilah snapped back as she dusted some sand from her ruffled skirt.
"Still hate me?"
"Still a dick?" Lilah was sure he'd get bored,but JJ Maybank never did get bored.
"I'm sorry did I upset the princess? why don't you call your brother,better yet,call your Dad,tell him a worthless little pogue bothered his precious daughter."
Lilah hadn't even realised Emily had left with the other girls,leaving only some bottles of the drinks.
"You know,you Pogues love to play the victim don't you? Everyone's got problems dumbass." Lilah was getting increasingly angry now as she felt her face burn and tears threatening to betray her.She cried when she was angry.
"Yeah but your problems are how many shoes you'll buy next." his eyes wandered to the dainty black leather sandals that adorned her feet.
"Go fuck yourself JJ." Lilah let out an exasperated sigh as she watched him walk away,satisfied he had gotten under her skin,Lilah wasn't sure what it was about him,but he seemed to love bothering her,and she always gave him a reaction.
She picked up another bottle of the alcoholic mix and drank it in 10 minutes,after that it got so much easier to keep drinking,she hadn't even noticed she had leaned her head to rest on the dune of sand where the log sat,or that her eyes where fluttering closed.
AN: ahh im so excited srry this chapter is short this is sort of an intro to the whole book,i hope everyone enjoyed it so far!
