After a couple hours of sitting in the waiting room of the hospital, Mamrie and I were finally allowed to go visit Grace. When we walked in, she looked so weak and fragile that it made my stomach twist and turn. I sat down beside her in the little, green, leather chair and held her hand.
"Hey girlfriend. How ya feeling?" I asked, "I was extremely worried about you."She looked up at me as if she was embarrassed to look at me, which made me feel like this whole thing was my fault.
"I'm fine Hannah. Thanks for asking." She said then quickly forcing herself to roll over.
"Can you explain to me why you decided to do this so I can prevent it from the future?" I asked in a worry tone.
She just stayed in the position she was in but I noticed that she clenched her fist as if she was holding all her feelings in. Without saying a word, I stood up from my chair and gestured Mamrie to sit down then I left the room and led myself to the basement, where the food court was. I bought myself a salad, Mamrie a cheeseburger, and Grace some fries because I wasn't even sure if she was alright to eat.
I sat down and noticed all the adorable partners with their ill or injured lovers. It was almost as if they were mocking me. I just showed myself back to Grace's room so atleast there, I felt like I belonged.
When I walked in with the food, Mamrie and Grace stopped talking in mid-sentence so I just put the food down and stood there, picking at my salad trying to avoid them. Mamrie came up behind me and whispered come here in my ear. I followed her into the hallway.
"Hannah, Grace loves you." Mamrie said
"Well, duh. I love her too, she's my best friend." I said nervously
"No, she is in love with you."
I looked into the hospital room and stared at the love of my life laying on the bed in pain and depressed. Her eyes met mine then I turned back to Mamrie.
"So, it is all my fault." I said. "Does she know that I feel the same way?"
