"Game Over"
— ♡ —
It had been a couple weeks since something felt off. They were only
small things that provoked your dubiousness, but it was enough to make you a bit more aware of your surroundings.Sometimes your windowsill would have strange, dark marks on them. You swore you'd wipe them off but when morning came the next day, a fresh stain would be in its place. Under closer scrutiny, they looked to almost be the imprint of a sole.
Then there was the figure in the corner of your eye. Whenever you were out, there was always this nagging feeling in the back of your mind, and an accompanying dark figure in your peripheral vision.
Of course when you snapped your head round, nothing was there. This habit yielded stares from members of the public, urging you to think if you had even seen a shadowy silhouette in the first place.
A couple of days later you were streaming, and from the room next door, you heard the faintest creak. You stopped talking and craned your neck to listen harder for the sound.
Nothing followed, so you went back to entertaining your stream. But something wasn't right, despite how much you tried to reassure yourself.
Then came Wednesday. As an unemployed streamer, your day-to-day life was as disordered as you expected it to be. You were currently eating lunch at five o'clock - a simple struggle meal of spaghetti - and scrolling through your social media timeline.
All of a sudden, a knock at your door sounded. You perked your head up, clearly not expecting a visitor at this hour. Unfolding your legs, you sat up straighter on the couch, craning your ears for any more sounds. While holding your breath, someone banged on your door again. "Jeez I'm coming," you huffed under your breath as you reluctantly waddled up to the front door. Peering through the spyhole, you couldn't see much, though that was probably due to the dust that had accumulated over the years. With a groan you unlocked the front door and poked your head out left and right.
No one was there.
The leaves of the trees rustled in the distance, a police siren could be heard faintly in the distance...but there was no sign of immediate human activity.
Now you had consumed a fair amount of horror and thriller movies. Sighing, you turned right back into your house - not that you left the front door anyway - and bolted the door shut. There was no way you were that bothered to go and check for who knocked. It was probably a ding-dong-ditcher; a lot of highschool kids in the area were forever up to stuff like that.
After your late lunch and a few more hours of lounging around, you booted up your stream and greeted your viewers. The chatting went smoothly until someone rang your doorbell.
"Huh," you mused to your stream. "I wonder who that could be."
'did you order a pizza??'
'tryna netflix n chill ;)?'
'don't leave us !!!!'You rose to stand up, discarding your headphones on your gaming chair and sauntered over to your front door. Perhaps it was one of your neighbours who lost their key while clubbing. It wasn't the first time that had happened; you usually didn't mind sleeping over with your next-door neighbour since she was a lot of fun to be around.
"Bailey is that you? Gosh, you gotta keep a better eye on—" The words were left on your tongue once you opened the door, only to find nobody there. "—huh..."
