Chapter 116: An Unexpected Turn of Events

Worried about the affairs waiting for them in Mang City, Miao Jun and his wife barely finished their meal before they hurried off.

Watching Song Yimo stand silently beside Miao Zhiruo, He Yi let out a long, weary sigh.

"How did Yimo get so perceptive?" she mused. "She thinks three steps ahead of us in everything. Sometimes, it feels like all my extra decades on this earth have been in vain."

Miao Jun glanced at his wife, who was clearly feeling sentimental. “What did she say to you?”

"Two things. First, she plans to bring Mom along with Zhiruo and the others to City B. She’ll have Mu Yang with them, so I feel reassured about that. As for the second matter..."

He Yi sighed again. "Yimo wants Mom to come to the city to help with cooking, to lend us a hand here and there. She even suggested Zhiruo stay at her place, saying it’d give me peace of mind. It's not about feeling uneasy—it's just not feasible. No matter how good Mu Yang is, he’s still not a Song. His fondness for Yimo is genuine, and he’s ready to treat her like a sister. But it’s unreasonable to expect him to look after her friends as well.”

“Mu Yang mentioned this to me,” Miao Jun replied, skillfully steering the car. “I’ll think it over.”

He Yi nodded, feeling a sense of assurance. She knew her husband well enough to recognize that if he said he’d think it over, he was already halfway to deciding.

“Oh, by the way, did you see Yimo’s room? It’s the loveliest girl’s room I’ve ever laid eyes on—just like something out of a TV show. Mu Yang put real thought into it.”

Miao Jun responded with a quiet grunt, withholding any further opinion. While he could see Mu Yang’s kindness toward Yimo was genuine, he remained wary. In his eyes, Mu Yang, despite his warm gestures, was still somewhat of an outsider.

“Do you know what Mom and Auntie Song think?” He Yi didn’t wait for a reply, chuckling as she provided the answer herself. “Mom says if Yimo could marry Mu Yang, then Mu Yang would truly be one of our own.”

Miao Jun nearly slammed the gas pedal to the floor. If things were heading in that direction…

Could Mu Yang really be thinking that way?

Yimo’s still so young!

“What’s wrong? Don’t you think it’s a good match?”

Miao Jun shot He Yi a look. “Yimo is still just a little girl, and you’re already scheming! Talk like this behind closed doors with Mom if you must, but make sure neither Mu Yang nor Yimo ever hears it.”

“What’s the harm if they do? If there’s no such intention, they’ll just laugh it off as a joke. But if there’s already a spark, then that’s all the better. I think Mu Yang’s a good match. These days, genuine affection between people is rare; finding someone who’ll treat you wholeheartedly is no easy task.”

“That’s something to consider far in the future,” Miao Jun replied firmly. “Make sure Mom understands that, too.”

“Yes, yes, I know.” He Yi turned her gaze out the window with a trace of exasperation, though secretly, she found herself wishing for it to come true. After all, the bond of siblings couldn’t compare to that of husband and wife.

Meanwhile, Zhai Muyang had taken everyone out to a nearby restaurant. The food was heavy with oil and salt, and the weather was stifling. No one ate much, and as soon as they got home, everyone dug into some fresh fruit instead.
