Chapter 123: A Secret Revealed

Under the dim, amber glow of the streetlights, the road stretched out endlessly.

Song Yimo leaned against the car window, gazing at the tail lights of the vehicle ahead, a pensive look in her eyes.

She couldn’t quite understand—how could things happen in this life that had never occurred in her last?

She had died, yet here she was, alive. Those who should have been healthy were now at the edge of death. No matter how she tried, she couldn’t simply push it aside as if it didn’t affect her.

"It’ll take about two hours to get to the airport. Want to take a nap?"

"I slept plenty on the way back. Can’t sleep now." Song Yimo pulled her gaze away and turned to him. "You’ve been driving all day. Aren't you tired?"

"What’s a little thing like this? I’ve done fifteen-hour stretches before."

"Driving while tired is dangerous."

Zhai Muyang chuckled. "Yes, yes, I’ll do my best to avoid it from now on."

Song Yimo realized she might be overstepping, yet even so, her brother just accepted her concern warmly. Suddenly, the words she’d been struggling to say slipped out on their own.

"Dage, I write novels online."

Zhai Muyang’s heart skipped a beat, excitement, and surprise mingling in his chest.

He was thrilled she’d shared her secret with him, yet astonished she would choose to do so.

Nearly a year together had been enough for him to understand her.

Anyone else might have boasted to the world about their online success, about earning in a year what others couldn’t in a lifetime. But not her.

She spent her earnings to open a store for Miao Jun, and saved Zuo Chun and Wu Ting’s lives, yet never bought herself a single outfit or a single hairpin.

She studied diligently as always, her grades steadily climbing, and treated everyone around her with warmth, like sunshine. Except for the grandmother she had chosen to tell and Miao Jun’s family, no one knew the wealth she kept in her hands.

And now, she had chosen to share this secret with him.

Zhai Muyang gripped the steering wheel a little tighter, his expression a mix of surprise and delight. “How long have you been writing? Can you tell me the title?”

Song Yimo, a little flustered, brushed a strand of hair behind her ear and looked away. “Since before the new year. As for the title… I’ll tell you later, Dage. I don’t have a laptop, and I can’t afford to miss an update on the serial. So, I was hoping to borrow yours when we get to B City.”

"Of course, that’s no problem." Zhai Muyang smiled, refraining from pointing out that she could easily buy a laptop herself. "I even provide laptops for my junior managers. As a shareholder, you’re certainly entitled to one—it’s my oversight."

"Is the company’s employee treatment really that good?"

"Naturally, my company is the one college grads most want to work for."

Song Yimo smiled, and the comment reminded her of something. She wondered if her brother’s e-commerce platform had launched yet. Since he hadn’t mentioned it, it was probably still in the works.

Should she nudge him to act quickly?

Opportunities vanish in an instant; if you’re not a step ahead, you’ll end up chasing others.
