Chapter 131: Two Calls

Song Yimo lowered her head, pinching her fingers. “I think I was a bit rude to him.”

“Don’t worry, no matter how rude you were, it wouldn’t match me,” Zhai Muyang said, ruffling her hair and placing her hand on the gear stick. “As long as you didn’t let him take advantage, that’s all that matters.”

Song Yimo blinked. “Why would he get the better of me? I didn’t go running off to the Yang family. Even if they’re a powerful household, that doesn’t give them the right to come to the hospital and bully a stranger.”

“It’s just my overthinking,” Zhai Muyang replied with a smile, leaving the topic there. Song Yimo was so unguarded; she had no idea that not everyone was as steady as she was.

With someone like Yang Shusheng, the only way he’d gain nothing is if his target left him no way in.

Song Yimo, of course, was no match for Yang Shusheng’s cunning, but she was immune simply because she had never thought to gain anything from him or his family.

Anyone else might not have been so lucky.

Yang Shusheng had long hoped he would bow his head, but he could keep waiting—because it would never happen.

“Oh, by the way, Uncle Miao called earlier. Your homeroom teacher learned about Wu Ting and Zuo Chun’s situation and reached out to him. After checking with me, he gave her my number. She might be calling you in the next couple of days.”

Song Yimo smacked her forehead. “I completely forgot it was report card day!”

“Relax. Uncle Miao said you did great—ranked fourth in your grade.”

Moving up two spots!

Song Yimo’s eyes curved into a smile.

When they got home, it was already eight o’clock. Just as Yimo finished showering, Chen Biling called. Her hair was still dripping, and her brother’s phone was one of those impossibly expensive models, so she put it on speaker and continued drying her hair.

“Is this Song Yimo?”

“Ms. Chen, it’s me.”

“I’ve heard about Wu Ting and Zuo Chun. How’s Wu Ting doing? Is she any better?”

“Much better. She’s had surgery, and the doctors say her chances of recovery are high.”

“I looked into their families’ situations today, and things don’t look good for either. With the holidays coming, a school-wide donation drive won’t be possible. Send me a bank account number, and I’ll transfer some funds. I’ll try to find more help.”

Ms. Chen would find a way; Song Yimo was certain of that. Just like her past life, Ms. Chen would go to great lengths, even putting herself in debt, if it meant helping her. But in this life, there was no need.

“Ms. Chen, we already have the medical costs covered.”

There was a pause on the other end. When Ms. Chen spoke, her voice was softer than ever. “Yimo, I know you’ve been taken in by an influential older brother—I’ve heard about it. But in the end, he’s not your real brother. You can’t owe anyone such a great favor. Yes, you can pay it back, but not anytime soon, and until then, you’ll carry that debt. Do you think it will be easy?”

Zhai Muyang raised his brows as he brought in a plate of fruit. No wonder Yimo was so determined to help—Ms. Chen truly had a kind heart.

Song Yimo stuck her tongue out at her brother, then continued her conversation with Ms. Chen while Zhai Muyang took the towel from her hands and gently dried her hair.
