Chapter 136: Sister in the Eyes of Brother
Since the siblings had moved in, this was Zheng Senlin’s first visit.
Sinking into the sofa, he glanced around and chuckled, “Not bad. Feels more like people actually live here now.”
The essentials hadn’t changed much, but a collection of small touches filled the space: fresh flowers in a vase, a large potted plant in the corner, a neatly folded throw on the sofa, and a few snacks on the coffee table. It was a far cry from the sparse atmosphere of when he’d lived here alone—now it felt warmer, more lived-in.
Zheng Senlin thought to himself, 'Now, this feels like a home.' With the two siblings co-managing, he figured they’d be just fine.
Zhai Muyang watched as Yimo guided Wu Ting to her room, then grabbed two cans of beer from the fridge, tossing one to Zheng Senlin before settling into the single chair beside him. “You’re busy enough—what brings you by?”
Zheng Senlin took a long gulp, then shot a pointed look at Muyang. “And you! Yimo’s grandma came to visit, and you didn’t even give me a heads-up? You call her Grandma, right? You’re genuinely treating her as family, right? So, with our friendship, shouldn’t I have come by to pay my respects?”
“It’s not like you won’t have another chance to meet her. You know I’m working on developing a new scenic area. What, Wu Mu—you think I’m only doing that project because of Yimo?”
Zheng Sanlin raised an eyebrow. “Isn’t that the reason?”
“Of course not.” Zhai Muyang leaned back, relaxed. “Once it’s ready, I’ll invite you all as the first guests.”
“What’s there to see? All scenic spots are the same—either mountains or rivers, or they turn some historic figure’s old house into a tourist site. Seen one, seen them all.”
Zhai Muyang shook his head. “The landscapes in Xinghu County aren’t dramatic or rugged, but they have a quiet beauty that changes with every season. It’s a natural, comforting kind of beauty. I tried to keep that essence intact while developing it. If I put it in literary terms, it’s like my version of the Peach Blossom Spring.”
Zheng Senlin ’s eyes narrowed slightly. “Is it the scenery making you feel all that—or the people?”
“Xinghu County isn’t some backwater. Sure, there are folks with their own agendas, but most are just honest people. Oh, and it was Yimo who discovered this spot. She took me around, showing each place, and even suggested making it into a scenic area.”
Zhai Muyang took satisfaction in seeing the look of surprise on Zheng Senlin’s face. Inwardly, he was a little smug—he wanted his friends to see that Yimo wasn’t some hanger-on. In fact, he had gained far more from her than she had from him.
But Yimo didn’t dwell on such things, and he wouldn’t let money or possessions taint what they shared.
As far as he was concerned, whatever Yimo needed, he would always give her his all.
Zheng Senlin, sensing Zhai Muyang’s intentions, couldn’t help but roll his eyes, though inwardly, he now held Song Yimo in even greater esteem.
Before this, Zheng Senlin hadn’t thought poorly of Yimo, but he hadn’t quite seen her as an adult, either. He’d assumed her innocence had simply won over Old Zhai’s heart, but he hadn’t realized she had such sharp insight.
“Ever heard of ‘Mo Guang’?” Zhai Muyang asked.
“Isn’t that a website?” Zheng scratched his head. “Think someone mentioned it in passing. Don’t tell me that’s your work?”
