Chapter 145: After the Confession

Wen Xianxian’s face hardened, ready to explode, but the man beside her quickly pulled her back into her seat, scolding in a low voice, "What did you promise me before we came?"

“I can’t hold it in, Second Brother, I just can’t!” Her voice trembled, barely containing the fury that surged beneath. “If he was cold to everyone, I could accept it, but look at how he treats that girl—like she’s something precious.”

Though she kept her voice low, the two people closest to her heard every word. They followed her gaze and saw Zhai Muyang gently pouring water for a young woman, whispering something to her with a soft, affectionate expression.

“It’s been over ten years, I’ve known him for over ten years, and he’s never looked at me like that. Second Brother, how could I possibly be at peace with this?”

Sitting beside her, Wen Shen could only sigh inwardly. As Xianxian’s cousin and a friend to Muyang, he couldn’t deny that Muyang was in the right. If he didn’t truly like Xianxian, then toying with her would have been cruel.

“Xianxian, I warned you about this a long time ago.”

“But I love him.” Wen Xianxian clutched at her aching chest, where her heart had, for over a decade, held room for only one person. How could she possibly move on?

"Wen Dhen, this meal only has enough bowls and chopsticks for ten people. I won't add any more."

Wen Shen smiled bitterly, sensing Zhai Muyang’s growing irritation. He wanted to disown any responsibility for her presence, but he hadn’t been able to stop her from flying all the way from B City to Mangshi. And with their ailing aunt begging him over the phone, how could he refuse?

“Muyang, don’t take Xianxian’s words too seriously. She’s just... she’s too deep in it.”

Wen Xianxian shot to her feet, defiant. “I’ll never be able to let go in this life, Muyang Gege! I love you. I love you, and nothing you do will stop my heart.”

A confession?

In front of everyone?

Song Yimo’s eyes widened, staring in shock. Could this woman really become her sister-in-law?

But then... he didn’t seem to like her.

Song Yimo quickly glanced at her older brother. His expression looked... displeased.

In that moment, Zhai Muyang turned, his gaze meeting Song Yimo’s clear eyes, and he felt something flicker in his heart. Without thinking, he reached under the table and took Song Yimo’s hand in his own.

“That’s your business. No law says I have to love you just because you love me, or that I must marry you because of your feelings.”

Wen Xianxian bit her lip, her eyes turning red with tears.

But Zhai Muyang, tired after years of her pursuit, showed no mercy now. “The more you love me, the less I feel for you.”

“Muyang!” Wen Shen stood abruptly, his face taut with strain. “Enough. She is, after all, my sister.”

“Precisely because she’s your sister, I’ve put up with her all these years. Here and abroad, you know how much trouble she’s caused me. But family ties don’t oblige me to tolerate her forever.”

Wen Shen wiped his face, frustrated. The Wen family had indeed been aiming for this golden match all along. And truthfully, even he had entertained hope.

A pale man with glasses, looking just as old as Zhai Muyang, spoke up with a bitter smile. “Speaking of which, lao Zhai, did you ever tell everyone what happened overseas?”
