The day of White Day finally arrived, and I couldn’t have been more excited. Dressed in a crisp white top, matching joggers, and my favorite sneakers, I felt confident and ready to shine. The school compound buzzed with excitement as students and teachers hurriedly prepared for the event.

What made the day even more special was the surprise attendance of the school owner herself. Normally, she didn’t bother with school activities, so her presence made everyone nervous. "She doesn’t come to watch small events like this," Laura whispered to me as we waited backstage. "We need to make this perfect."

The event kicked off with a heartfelt prayer, followed by a powerful song ministration from the choir. Next up were the Science Club students, showcasing their experiments. To be honest, I didn’t pay much attention—it just wasn’t my thing. Instead, I was backstage, rehearsing for my performance and coordinating with Laura to keep the event running smoothly.

The Food and Baking Club stole the show with their impressive menu. They made sandwiches, burgers, and jollof rice, all neatly displayed on colorful trays. When our school owner asked to taste the food, everyone held their breath. "This is really good," she said with a rare smile, much to the delight of the students and teachers. The tension eased, and the event grew even more lively.

There was a series of engaging activities, including debates, quizzes, and prize-giving ceremonies for the winners. Everything was going according to plan, but the highlight of the event was the drama presentation.

When it was finally time for the drama, I took center stage, playing the role of an evil stepmother who poisoned her stepchild’s food, only for her own child to mistakenly eat it. As the story unfolded, my character was exposed and ultimately thrown out of the house by her furious husband. In my final scene, I dropped to my knees, crying and begging for forgiveness. Tears streamed down my face—real tears. The audience was stunned into silence before erupting into applause.

Some of the students who had seen me act before during an inter-school competition weren’t surprised, but for many others, it was their first time witnessing my skills. "Mimi, that was amazing!" Laura exclaimed as I walked backstage. I felt a surge of pride, After the event ended with a celebratory dance, something unexpected happened. One of my strictest teachers, a woman who rarely spoke to me, called me aside. "Mirabel, you were brilliant," she said in a serious tone. "Have you ever thought about pursuing acting? You have a natural gift."

I was taken aback. "Thank you, ma. I’ve always loved entertainment, but I want to be a lawyer. It’s a career that would give my family respect," I explained, though her words lingered in my mind.

"Respect is good," she replied, "but don’t bury your talent. Sometimes life doesn’t go as planned, and you should always keep your options open."

I nodded, her words resonating deeply. It was a day filled with laughter, fun, and a hint of reflection. As I walked home that evening, I couldn’t help but wonder what the future held. Would I be a lawyer like I planned, or would life lead me down a different path? Whatever the case, I knew I was ready for whatever life had to offer.
