Nasir stood on the balcony of their luxury hotel suite, the warm Dubai breeze brushing against his skin as he took a slow pull from the cigar in his hand. The city's skyline glittered like a sea of diamonds, and the sight of the towering Burj Khalifa against the dusky sky was nothing short of breathtaking. Marijuana was illegal in Dubai, and knowing how strict the laws were, Nasir wasn't about to test his luck. The cigars he'd picked up at the airport when they landed had become his temporary vice.
The trip had been smooth so far, a much-needed escape from their usual routines. He and Camille had arrived the morning prior, jet-lagged and eager to unwind. They'd spent the first day exploring the city, indulging in a little shopping, and marveling at Dubai's extravagant sights. By the time night fell, exhaustion had set in, and they decided to stay in, enjoying room service and the comfort of their suite.
Since he had been on the trip, Aria had barely crossed Nasir's mind. He'd thought about her here and there, but it was more out of habit than urgency. Their situation was still fresh, and though things were on good terms between them, Aria didn't weigh heavily on his mind the way Camille did, and Nasir had to admit that he was still figuring out what exactly he wanted from her.
He found himself more focused on the trip, where things were smoother than expected. Despite the cracks in their relationship, the trip was providing a strange sort of calm. Maybe it was the change of scenery or just the distance from their usual environment, but Nasir felt a sense of relief, even if it was temporary.
Today, however, had been a whirlwind of activity. They visited the sand dunes in the morning, taking in the vast, golden landscape and even trying their hand at dune bashing. Lunch was at a high-end restaurant overlooking the Persian Gulf, where the food was as vibrant and flavorful as the city itself. Camille had insisted on partaking in some of the activities the hotel offered—a mix of spa treatments and a brief dip in the infinity pool that boasted one of the best views in the city.
