It was all dark. Nothing but an endless void surrounded me.

“Akira-chan!” A familiar voice called out, warm and soothing, cutting through the oppressive silence.

I froze. My chest tightened as a deep ache I hadn’t allowed myself to feel in years clawed its way to the surface. That voice...

"Look at you," another voice said, steady and strong, yet laced with pride. "How strong you have grown."

My breath hitched.

"Ma? Baba?" I whispered into the darkness, my voice trembling like a fragile thread about to snap.

The void shifted, and a soft golden light bloomed, spilling into the nothingness like the morning sun breaking through clouds. Slowly, their figures emerged, hazy at first, then clear.

Ma stood there, her gentle smile lighting up the space around her. She looked just as I remembered—beautiful, kind, a warmth I’d craved for so long. Beside her stood Baba, tall and steadfast, his gaze full of pride and love.

It hurt to see them. It hurt more to know this wasn’t real.

"Is it really you?" I managed to say, my voice barely above a whisper.

Ma stepped closer, her voice a balm to my weary soul. "Yes, Akira-chan. We’re here."

"You shouldn’t be here. I don’t deserve this. I don’t deserve to see you—not after everything I’ve done."

"Stop." Ma’s voice was firm but gentle, her gaze piercing through the walls I had built. She reached out, brushing a strand of hair from my face. Her touch was impossibly warm, too real for this dream. "You’ve carried so much, Akira. More than anyone ever should. But don’t you dare think for a second that you’re undeserving of love. You’ve done your best."

Baba stepped closer, his presence as steady as I remembered. "You’ve protected so many, even when it meant losing parts of yourself. That’s something to be proud of."

"But I don’t know if I’m strong enough anymore," I admitted, my voice breaking. The words felt like a confession I’d kept buried for far too long.

Ma’s eyes softened as she cupped my face, her voice as soothing as a lullaby. "Strength isn’t just about being invincible, Akira-chan. It’s about continuing to stand, even when the world knocks you down. It’s in the love you show others, and the courage to keep going."

I swallowed hard, the tears I’d tried to hold back spilling over. "I miss you. I miss you both so much."

"We know," Ma said softly, pulling me into a hug. Her embrace felt so real, so warm, that I couldn’t help but lean into it.

Baba rested a firm hand on my shoulder. "You’re never alone, Akira. No matter how dark it gets, we’re always with you—in your heart, in your strength, in the bonds you’ve made."

The golden light around them began to fade, and their figures grew hazy. My chest constricted.

"Wait! Please, don’t go!" I reached out, my voice breaking with desperation.

Ma’s voice, now just a whisper, lingered in the air. "You carry us with you, Akira. Always."

Baba’s final words echoed as they vanished into the light. "We’re so proud of you. Never forget that."

The light dissolved into darkness, and then I woke up.

Today was finally the day of the ball. A grand event that had everyone buzzing with excitement—except me. I never understood the appeal. Why not arrange a cinema night instead? At least that wouldn't feel like a chore.
