On and on they all danced. They danced for those who fought, those who survived, and those who had fallen. Victory, joy, sorrow, respect, and for the unknowing of what was to follow. The battles had been brutal and hard against hopeless odds but they miraculously triumphed, and each one of them had played a key part. If one had died, their odds of dancing this night might have been only a scavenging hunt for orcs.
The wine was sweeter and sweeter making Thayonidas's voice sound louder and louder in her head until she could no longer ignore it. The task before her was one that was to take all of her courage but she let her hair down and pushed her way away from her giddy dancing partners toward the band who were clearly becoming more and more nervous as she approached. She pulled the leader aside and spoke with him for a few moments and he made sure to listen carefully to every word she said.
When she was finished she took a step back to see if he understood and he nodded and he gathered his band mates and they spoke for a few moments before he turned back to her with a smile and a slight bow.
He gestured toward the place where she was to stand and she took a deep breath and gathered all the courage she could muster. It was much harder than any battle she had prepared for.
The noise in the room was loud even without the thrilling music making her wonder if this was just foolish but she looked up once and there standing side by side was Aragorn and Legolas who were watching her with slight smiles on her face and she heard Thayonidas's voice say, "Go on." And so she took her position and began her song in her native language which immediately caused all in the room to fall silent and stare at her.
Tá cailín álainn, a dtug mé grá dhi
Sí 's deis' is áille, ná bláth 's ná rós
Gan í ar láimh liom, is cloíte atá mé
Ó a chailín álainn, 's tú fáth mo bhróin
A chailín álainn, a dtug mé grá duit
Ó bí ar láimh liom, mo mhíle stór
Ó abair liomsa, gur tú mo ghrá gheal
Beidh orm áthas, in áit an bhróin
Nuair a éirím, amach go huaigneach
Siúd é an uair, is mó mo bhrón
O bím ag smaointeamh, ar an chailín uasal
Atá i bhfad uaimse, mo chreach 's mo bhrón
Dá dtiocfá liomsa, a chailín álainn
Aríst go brách ní, bheadh orm brón
Sheinnfinn ceol duit, mar cheol na cláirsí
Nó ceol binn smóilín, 's an drúcht gheal cheo
The song she had sung was about the death and life of a great man and how great his sacrifice would be revered. A song fit for Thayonidas.
When she had finished the song the leader began to play his drum and sing, "Dulaman, dulaman, Gaelach"
She began to sway back and forth before she began to sing.
A 'níon mhín ó, sin anall na fir shúirí
A mháithairin mhín ó, cuir na roithléan go dtí mé
Dúlamán, dúlamán, dúlamán na binne buí
Dúlamán na binne buí Gaelach
Dúlamán, dúlamán, dúlamán na farraige
Dúlamán na binne buí Gaelach
Rachaimid me chun Niúir leis an dúlamán
Gaelach ceannóimid bróga daora ar an dúlamán Gaelach
