My mind tangles with thoughts of last Friday making my lecturer's voice fade into a distant blur.
I can't help but think of the way he looked at me. Like I was the only girl in the world.
A flutter erupts in my stomach at that thought. No. Stop Rhea.
It's just fucking creepy.
How did he even get my number? How does he know me?
This is insane. I need to tell the police.
"Rhea" I jump and look up at my professor, "care to tell us what's more interesting than this lesson?"
"I- sorry just... daydreaming" I stutter out. I never stutter but this woman stares the shit out of me.
Her lip curls, "we'll pay attention, this project is 50% of your final grade."
I let out a breath and try to focus on the lecture.
By the end of it, I cannot remember any of the information about the project.
Oh well. That's a problem for future Rhea. All that's on my mind is how I'm going to sort out this stalker situation.
Once I'm out of the building I start to head towards the nearby police station. Hopefully, they can sort this out.
I bump shoulders with a person as I hurry down the street. "sorry" I say but only to be returned with a grunt and being cussed out.
Asshole.
Eventually, I arrive at the station and pull open the door. The inside is warm and has a row of people lined up. Great.
I stay in the line for about 20 minutes, the majority because of an old lady whose cat got stuck in a tree.
"Hello, what can I help you with today?" The man behind the counter groaned at me.
I clear my throat nervously, "um I think I'm being stalked." This makes him raise a brow.
"You think?"
I open my mouth before shutting it again. "I know."
"Right. Do you have any evidence of this... alleged stalking."
I pause for a moment. "Well... sorta."
He huffs, "If you have no actual evidence then you'll have to leave ma'am. People have actual issues."
I stand in shock. "This is an actual issue. I'm being watched by a fucking psycho who threatened my friend."
Rolling his eyes, he replies, "Ma'am you'll have to leave we don't have time for you."
I'm the one who just stood behind an old woman for 20 minutes about a fucking cat.
"Wait!" I yell causing a few strangers to look at me. With a red tint on my face, I say, "I have a number."
He raises his brow once again. I show him the number and wait as the man types it in the system.
I impatiently tap my foot on the wooden floor and wait for him to finish. Before I know it he lifts his head with wide eyes.
"Ma'am. There is nothing we can do for you."
I look at him confused. "Is there something wrong?"
"There's nothing on the system. Sorry. You should leave now." He hurries his sentence out and ushers me away from the desk.
"Wait. I-"
"There is nothing, you must leave." He stands and escorts me to the door.
He puts his hand on my back and pushes me out. When I turn back, the door is slammed in my face.
The man hurries over to the desk and dials something on his phone.
Whatever, weirdo.
~~~
I sit on the couch next to Valerie whilst Briar is out shopping for baking ingredients.
A trashy reality show plays on the TV as we shove our pizza down our throats. I fucking love pizza.
Val laughs next to me. Of course. She's on her phone, texting with Jayden.
Jayden is the guy she went on a date with. Personally, I think he's a stuck-up rich loser but if he makes her happy then I guess I can let it pass.
I huff and take another slice from the greasy box. I've probably got sauce slathered all over my face.
"Hello... earth to Valerie." To this, she looks up but then rolls her hazel eyes. "We're supposed to be spending quality time together."
She sighs and puts down the phone. "I know. I'm sorry, I'll be paying full attention from now on"
"Thank you," I say smiling. "Now, tell me about what you and Jayden were talking about" I squeal.
Val blushes and begins to describe her date. "It was perfect, he took me to this amazing new restaurant in town and gave me flowers and-"
All of a sudden a buzz disrupts Val's rant about her lover. She picks up her phone but frowns.
"It's not me."
I sigh and reach into my back pocket to find my phone. My eyes widen at the number.
Unknown: You really think that I'm stupid, don't you любовь. (Love)
Me: What do you mean?
I freeze, my fingers tightening around the phone until my knuckles turn white. My heart pounds so loudly I swear Val can hear it.
Unknown: I'm more powerful than you think, милый (Darling)
Shit. Shit. Shit.
"Is everything alright?" Valerie asks, her face marred with concern. What do I tell her?
"It's nothing, I'm fine." My voice is shaky and my hands tremble.
Valerie sighs but then takes my hands in a comforting hold. "It's not nothing, Rhea. If there's something wrong you know you can talk to me."
My eyes water but I hold it down. I need to tell someone. Shouldn't it be one of my best friends?
I take a deep breath and explain the whole story. By the end Val's face is pale but she tightens her hold on my hand. "Oh my gosh. Did you call the police?"
"I tried but they kicked me out. I think he has power over them." I show her the message and she blinks in concern.
She stutters before shutting her mouth at a loss for words.
"We should tell Briar when she is back." I nod at her suggestion just as my phone buzzes again. I close my eyes and inhale before reading the message.
Unknown: Scared? You know you shouldn't be, I won't hurt you. Just don't do something stupid again.
Anger bubbles inside me. Who the fuck does this man think he is?
Me: Whoever the fuck you are, you can't control my life. I'm not afraid of your meaningless threats.
I don't receive a straight away but soon enough a text pops up.
Unknown: You should be.
Hope y'all enjoyed this chapter. I didn't really know what to write for this one so I hope it's ok!!!
