Paedyn woke slowly, the golden light of morning filtering through the thin curtains. Her body felt deliciously heavy, her mind hazy with the lingering warmth of last night.
A soft smile curved her lips as her thoughts drifted to Kai—his sweet words, his touch, the way he'd looked at her like she was his entire world. 'Plagues, he's everything I've ever wanted and more,' She thought to herself. Her heart ached, but it wasn't unpleasant; it was a fullness, a quiet certainty that she had found something rare, something worth fighting for.
She turned her head to see him still sleeping beside her, his face relaxed and peaceful, and her chest tightened with a love so fierce it scared her.
Paedyn couldn't resist the urge to touch him. His features were so sharp yet softened by sleep, and the morning sunlight kissed his skin in a way that made him look almost unreal.
She reached out hesitant at first, her finger lightly tracing the curve of his jaw, the strong bridge of his nose, the delicate arch of his brow. Her touch was featherlight, as though committing every detail to memory, her heart swelling with each pass.
Kai stirred, his lashes fluttering before his eyes opened, that deep, sleepy gray locking onto hers. Without thinking, she leaned in and pressed a soft kiss to his lips, a gentle greeting to start the day. He hummed low in his throat, the sound sending a shiver through her, and when she kissed him again, she felt his smile against her mouth.
His arms tightened around her, pulling her closer, and with a sudden, effortless movement, he rolled them over, leaving her perched on top of him. Paedyn let out a breathless laugh, her hands braced against his chest as she looked down at him. The sunlight filtering through the window caught her hair, casting a golden glow around her.
Kai's smirk grew as he gazed up at her, his voice low and teasing. "I could get used to waking up like this."
She rolled her eyes but couldn't suppress the small laugh that bubbled up. "Could you now?"
"Mmhm." His hands rested on her hips, his thumbs drawing lazy circles against her skin. "This might just be my new favorite thing."
Her laugh softened, and she leaned down, her lips finding his again. The kiss started slow, unhurried, but quickly deepened as Kai's hands slid up her back, pulling her impossibly closer. The warmth of his mouth, the way he sighed into her kiss—it made her forget everything but him. But when his hands began to wander lower, slipping past the curve of her hips, she pulled back, her breath catching as she stared down at him.
Kai looked utterly lovestruck, his cheeks flushed, his lips parted. It took everything in her not to get lost in him again. Instead, she sat up and slipped off the bed, a playful grin tugging at her mouth.
"Paedyn," he groaned, his voice thick with frustration and need.
She tossed a glance over her shoulder as she made her way to the bathroom, the sway in her step entirely intentional. "We still have work to do," she called, her laugh carrying through the room.
His face was priceless—equal parts exasperation and longing—as the bathroom door clicked shut behind her. Paedyn leaned against it for a moment, her smile wide and her heart full. God, she loved him, but she wasn't about to make it that easy.
