One month later...
"Madam, aur kitne din es pe nazar rakhni hai?" one of the men asked, his tone hinting at impatience. "Raat ko road pe koi nah ho tab bhi ye signal nahi todti, ye kyun kisi ko maregi?" he added, his words laced with frustration.
"Jitna kaha hai, utna karo. Tumhara opinion nahi manga uske baare mein," Happy replied curtly from the other end of the line, her voice as cold as the command. With that, the man continued his thankless surveillance of Haseena, observing her every move, though none seemed to yield any threat.
The world around Haseena was moving again, life resuming its rhythm, but for her, time seemed to stand still. A month had passed since that fateful day, and though everything had seemingly returned to normal for others, Haseena remained locked in the past. The department had cleared her of any responsibility for Karishma's death, unsealing her home and returning MIRA, the robot that had been at the heart of the tragedy. But the clean slate brought no comfort.
Now, as she shifted back to her own house, there was an emptiness that refused to leave. The warmth of her shared space with Karishma felt cold, like a shadow of what once was. Pushpa ji, was struggling too, and Haseena couldn't bring herself to stay there. Her mother had decided to remain with Pushpa ji, knowing the woman needed emotional support more than anyone right now.
Back at her own home, the silence gnawed at her, a painful reminder that everything had changed. Haseena placed MIRA in the garage, lifeless and cold—just like the hole inside her heart. She didn't feel sadness when she looked at the robot. Instead, anger and guilt swelled within her, emotions that were as relentless as the waves of memories that crashed into her every day.
Today, MIRA was just a machine again, a creation she once took pride in. Now, it was the very thing that had stolen the most precious part of her life.
As she connected MIRA to her computer, the soft hum of the machine felt like a mockery of the chaos inside her. Haseena's fingers moved deftly over the keyboard, scanning through logs, data, and every trace of activity stored in MIRA's system.
Who hacked MIRA? The question gnawed at her relentlessly, not letting her rest. And more importantly, how? How had they managed to break into something she had designed so meticulously?
"Sabse pehla sawal toh yeh hona chahiye—usse kaise pata ki MIRA robot hai aur Karishma ke thane mein hai?" she mumbled to herself, her mind swirling with unanswered questions. "Yeh baat toh sirf kuch logo ko pata thi..."
She scoured through the logs of MIRA's activities, checking every detail, every line of code, searching for a sign, a trace, anything that might explain how the system had been compromised. But the logs were clean. Not a single byte out of place. MIRA was exactly as she had left it before her trip to Pune.
Yet, the same question persisted. How?
Exhausted and frustrated, her mind teetering on the edge of despair, Haseena stood up. Her thoughts felt like shards of broken glass—sharp, chaotic, and painful. "Instructions bhi saare clear kar diye hain... koi history nahi, koi trace, koi ek bhi nishaan nahi jo humein IP address tak le jaaye?" she muttered as she walked toward the small kitchen in the garage, hoping a cup of coffee might soothe her frazzled nerves.
She paused, considering. "Ek baar Santu ko bulaana chahiye," she thought. Santu, a cyber expert, might be able to see something the others had missed. The department's own cyber team had combed through MIRA's data, but Haseena wanted to confirm by herself. But police were focused on finding a stolen pen drive, while Haseena was focused on something far more personal. She needed to find out what had happened to Karishma.
