"Shut up!" Kaylee yelled at Chad, who at the moment was teasing her about something that had happened in their English class today. I was really only half listening; my mind was stuck on Mr. Reynolds. He really felt the same way about me. He didn't regret kissing me, and I certainly didn't regret kissing him. There was only one issue. Being my teacher, a relationship between us is strictly frowned upon. He'd probably be fired and I'd get suspended or expelled. The thought made me frown.
"Here," Brandon said as he held out a red cup to me. Looking up at him, I hesitated but took the cup from his hands.
"Go on, try it," he ushered, sitting down next to me on the couch. I looked down at the clear liquid in the cup, sniffing it to see if I could tell what it was. It smelled like alcohol, there was no doubt about it. Taking a sip, the drink slightly burned the back of my throat.
"God, what is this stuff?" I questioned, puckering my lips. Brandon laughed, taking a swig of his own drink.
"Just a little birthday surprise I whipped up for you," he said. I took another sip, still feeling the burning sensation, but the actual taste of the alcohol was pretty good.
The lights were dimmed, music was playing, and everyone was chilled out in the basement of Brandon's house. It wasn't one of those parties that you saw in the movies, but that didn't matter to me. As long as I was with my friends, I was happy. Plus, there was food, and they brought me presents.
Pet had gotten me a pair of shoes that we had been drooling over for the last two weeks. Kaylee and Kyle gave me a gift card to my favorite coffee shop, and Chad decided to be a typical teenage guy and bought me a lace bikini.
"You might just want to try it on for size, you know? Give us a peek to see if it fits," he suggested. I rolled my eyes at him, holding back the urge to slap the smirk off of his face. But nonetheless, I was grateful for everything. Being the modest person I am, I told them not to get me anything at all. Of course, they didn't listen.
Brandon hadn't given me my gift yet, claiming it was a surprise and wanted to wait until the end of the night.
"I want cake," Pet blurted out, standing up and walking over to the bar counter where all of the food and drinks were.
"Cut me a slice, will you?" I asked, my voice a bit dry from the drink. Finding it quite good, I finished it fairly quickly causing Brandon to laugh.
"Wait here, I'll get you another one," he took my cup against my protests and left to refill it. My parents knew that there would be alcohol here, and had confronted me about it before I left. Since I was next door and didn't have to drive, they didn't mind that I had some considering it was my birthday. However, they made it clear that I was not missing school the next day from a hangover, so I better be responsible. Plus, I wasn't big into alcohol anyways.
Brandon came over, handing me the refilled cup, and a slice of cake which I immediately dug in to.
"Ohmygodthisissogood" I mumbled through bites. Brandon's mom was an amazing baker. Everyone laughed at me and continued to chat and eat.
Before I knew it, I had finished my second drink and was getting a little tipsy. I wasn't used to too much alcohol.
"Let's play a game!" Chad suggested.
"Which one?" Kyle asked.
"Spin the bottle!" Pet almost yelled. I laughed, she had always been obsessed with that game. Chad stood up, went over to the table and grabbed an empty bottle. Coming back, everyone sat in a circle on the floor. I was in between Kyle and Chad, Brandon across from me and Kaylee and Pet on either side of him.
"I'll go first," Chad informed, spinning the bottle. After a few seconds, the bottle slowed to a stop, pointing at Pet.
"Gross! I'm not kissing my cousin!" Petrina exclaimed. Chad looked mortified, while the rest of us erupted into giggles. Mine however, were a little harder to stop from the alcohol in my system.
"Kiss her cheek then," Kyle stated. Hesitantly, Chad leaned over and pecked Pet's cheek quickly, wiping his mouth off soon after. Petrina did the same, only to her cheek. We all continued to laugh as Petrina spun next. This time, the bottled punted at Kyle and the couple smirked at each other. Leaning towards one another, they locked lips and sucked each other's faces sloppily, the alcohol getting to them as well.
"Get a room!" Kaylee exclaimed. They pulled away giggling like little school children who had just kissed for the first time. Maybe they had a little too much to drink already.
"My turn," Brandon said. Reaching to the middle, he spun the bottle forcefully. Around and around the bottle spun, taking its time to come to a stop. As it made its last rotation, it slowly came to a stop. The closed end pointed towards himself, which meant that the open end pointed at the person across from him. Me. Chad let out a wolf whistle as Brandon's eyes locked with mine. A serious expression came across his face. Slowly, I leaned forward on my knees as he followed suit. As our faces came within a few inches, we both stopped and hesitated. After a moment of keeping eye contact with one another, he leaned in and his lips gently brushed mine. My face heated up as his tongue slid across my bottom lip before it nibbled it slightly while our mouths moved together. After what seemed like eternity, I broke the kiss and sat back. His face was still serious, his eyes filled with passion. My head buzzed from a combination of alcohol and what had just happened.
One thought crossed my head, making me squeeze my eyes shut in thought: Mr. Reynolds.
