Backwards Path
Step by step
That's how I like to look at this world, our world.
Frame by frame, and still it's all the same
people so quick to point a finger, pull a trigger, and shell out blame
And still it's all the same
but bit by bit you have shown me,
That not everything is what you see
Piece by piece you've put together the puzzle
That was once a mystery
Inch by inch, we've gotten closer
And yet still, were light years apart
How can I reach you?
When you're harder to read
Than the most abstract piece of art
Word by word
You told me what it's like to feel alive
Instead of feeling like solid stone inside
You know how to stand tall
When anyone else would fall
How to get back onto your feet
While the other complain about being weak
And they weep, and cry
For sleep, and why?
Because you're not like the rest of them
With no determination to find a destination
Outside of self preservation
We're all subjects of damnation, reversing the creation
Of our successful nation
And without what has been stated we'll end up dominated
In this world we have created, debated, and reinstated
That is fading
I wish I could give you a taste of what it feels like
To have these minutes and moments gone to waste
Trying to match your pace
When I could have been walking straight into outer space
And oh, the obstacles I wish I didn't have to face
Following steps that I shouldn't have retraced
Just repeating the same old mistakes
What a waste
Frame by frame, and still no change
Brick by brick I have built my walls
I made them to be the highest of them all
yet somehow with a simple shove, you made them fall
But you're still the same
And I don't think you'll ever change
Not like I have
Because you,
You could have a hundred roads in front of you
And still you'd probably choose to walk backwards.
