Chapter 160: The Bonds of Love

Zou Mo glanced in the rearview mirror. "Still can't get through?"

Zhai Muyang, his brow tightly furrowed, ended the call and redialed. "No answer. Go faster."

Ignoring the speed limits posted along the roadside, Zou Mo pressed harder on the gas. Zheng Senlin, sitting in the front passenger seat, quietly fastened his seatbelt.

When a phone rang, Zhai Muyang immediately grabbed his—only to find his screen dark.

In the seat beside him, Ma Bo lifted his own phone, connecting the call and helpfully switching it to speaker.

"Hey, Ma Tianshi, I've found some info. The kid who went missing belongs to Commander Fang's family from the Mang City military district. As far as I know, Commander Fang has two sons but only one grandson at present."

Ma Bo turned to look at Zhai Muyang, who nodded back.

"I need to get in touch with Commander Fang personally. Any way to make that happen?"

The man on the other end sighed. "Ma Tianshi, that's going to be tough. Commander Fang’s reputation is as strict as they come; there aren’t many in Mang City who can even get close to him."

"Understood. Thanks. I'll be in touch in a few days."

Ma Bo ended the call, ignoring the effusive thanks on the other end. "We don't have a direct line, but we might not need it. Lao Zhai, remember that Yang Shusheng is currently in Mang City."

Zheng Senlin turned back. "Should I contact him?"

"No need. I’m not one for overcomplications. I’ll just owe him a favor. There's no room for subtleties now." As long as he could ensure Song Yimo’s safety, he’d gladly owe anyone a debt.

Zhai Muyang quickly dialed a set of numbers.

Yang Shusheng was resting with his eyes closed in his car when his phone rang. His eyes snapped open. Only one person had a special ringtone on his private line.

That kid rarely called; whenever he did, it always brought trouble. What was it this time?

"Muyang."

"Mr. Yang, I need your help contacting Commander Fang from Mang City's military district."

Yang Shusheng’s brows furrowed. "What's happened?"

"Song Yimo managed to take hold of a child and is being chased. Commander Fang's family lost a child."

In three succinct sentences, Zhai Muyang explained the situation, and Yang Shusheng's expression grew grave. "I'll contact Fang Wei right away. What do you need him to do?"

"I need to know who’s behind this, whether it’s personal or political, and what impact reporting to the police might have."

"Where was Yimo last seen?"

"When she called me, she was at Fountain Square. She mentioned trying to hide in a nearby shopping center, but I’ve been unable to reach her since."

"I’ll send someone there immediately."

Zhai Muyang rubbed his brow. Yang Shusheng’s involvement hadn’t lightened his burden one bit.

He was deeply worried about Song Yimo, overwhelmingly so.

Yimo would never ignore his call. Ever since their last conversation, he hadn’t been able to reach her again. Either her phone was broken or misplaced, or the situation made it inconvenient to answer—or worse, she’d fallen into their hands, and her phone was likely tossed into the trash by now.
