I slowly traced the patterns on the old but sturdy wall and sighed.
"How long will this wall keep us safe?"
A voice that seemed way too familiar replied back.
"Probably for a long time."
I turned around and smiled at Catherine.
"Hey, what are you doing here?" I asked, adjusting my gray beanie. Catherine Maniq shrugged.
"I was helping your grandma plant some seeds in the garden. She's always so nice, I wonder how she does that."
I snickered and received a glare.
"And what are you doing here?" Catherine questioned and I looked at the wall.
"Just thinking." I said, a bit cheerfully.
"About?"
"About our safety."
"And when did you ever think about that?" Catherine snorted.
"Every night," I admitted. Every night I had this feeling, a really bad feeling that our wall would be destroyed. But nevertheless, I kicked out the thought and tried to be positive. Although sometimes I do wonder what will destroy our protective wall?
"It's so strange seeing you like this," She laughed, "You're always so cheerful and ladada!"
"Yeah," I forced myself to laugh and Catherine seemed satisfied.
"Well, I gotta head on home to feed my little brother. I don't want him throwing a tantrum, even though he's old enough not to," She frowned for a second before smiling again. "I'll see you around Lily!"
"See ya!" I replied and started to wave as Catherine walked the opposite direction.
Once she was gone out of my sight, I headed back home.
"Hello dear, got your fresh air yet?" Grandma joked once I closed the door shut. I smiled at her and nodded.
"Well go wash up because supper is about to be ready," She instructed. I was about to go to the bathroom but stopped myself.
"Um, Grandma?"
She turned around and raised an eyebrow. I swallowed the rock that seemed to be stuck in my throat every time I asked a question and sighed.
"Do you...have you ever felt like our walls..would be destroyed?" My voice felt small.
Grandma looked at the table thoughtfully.
"Well," She said slowly, "There used to be these human-like giants called Titans."
I gave her a look that told her to keep going.
"And they were defeated, by us human beings. I doubt they will come back but there's always a possibility, now that you asked that question."
"What did they do?" I asked, instantly regretting when Grandma's expression fell, into guilt and sadness.
"They..they ate humans," She whispered. "They would pick up a human, and eat them as if eating a french fry. And they don't cook the human or anything, just break their neck and eat them." Grandma started to shake and I raced by her side, holding her tightly.
"I'm sorry for asking."
"It's alright dear, you ought to know sooner or later." Grandma smiled sadly and I fiercely scowled when she wasn't looking. They ate humans? What the absolute fuck? Why not eat animals but instead us humans?
And they were human-like? So did they used to be humans? Where did they come from? Hell? So many questions swirled inside my mind.
"Well, go wash up," Grandma said and I let go of her before walking to the bathroom, most of the questions still inside my mind.

I tossed myself on my bed and turned, rolled over and groaned lowly. I couldn't fall alseep; I didn't know why.
I knew I should be used to this, but something this night made me extremely uncomfortable.
Perhaps it was the Titans thing Grandma told me about. Or maybe it's because I'm always a night owl.
A scream escaped from outside and I immediately sat up, my heart thumping through my chest as if it wanted to come out.
I felt dizzy for a moment before slowly getting out of bed and creeping towards the window.
I held my breath as I carefully opened the curtains a bit, letting the moonlight stream through the small crack.
I saw a huge, and i mean huge, silhouette figure walking step by step, making the house shudder.
I gulped as I slammed the curtains shut and tried to control my breathing. I rubbed my eyes, just in case they were tricking me.
I opened the curtains again, in the previous position, and looked around in the darkness.
The figure was gone.
But my fear was not.
