The clock ticked past five in the morning the light of dawn entering into the room. The gentle chirping of birds accompanied the cold breeze slipping through the open balcony.

Lying half on the bed with my head off the edge, I had finally settled into a position that eased the tension in my muscles, though my mind yet remained a battlefield.

It's our engagement today 'namesake' my conscience mocked, rubbing salt to my open wounds.

I've always been a man who keeps emotions hidden behind a cold exterior but deep within, like everyone I too longed for a partner, not an obligation.

A life where my wife and I would cherish each other, where laughter would echo off walls adorned with family memories.
But dreams don't align with reality, do they?

I could have denied this arrangement but the thought of her, kept me bound. Even after, knowing the consequences of stepping into someone else's chaos, I couldn't walk away.

Her past decisions may have invited it into her life, but she didn't deserve this fate.

My thoughts tangled more as I kept my gaze fixed on the glowing horizon.

Would I truly be able to let her go if she wanted someday?

That promise lingers deep within, taunting me. Deep down, I know—I don't want her to.

I inhaled sharply, forcing the thought away. No, not today. Not ever.

"Arey, Aadarsh! Sab taiyaari hogai na? Kisi ko koi takleef nahi honi chahiye. Saare prabandh ekdum badiya hone chahiye humein!"

(Aadarsh, is everything ready? There shouldn't be any discomfort for anyone. Everything should be perfect!)

Veer's commanding tone echoed as he inspected the preparations for the engagement, with satisfaction.

However, the gleam in his eyes soon turned misty. Aadarsh, noticing the change, walked up to him. "Kya hua, Papa? Aankh main kuch chala gaya?"
