Young, vulnerable and alone, I had been a perfect target for bullies. My best friend, Abigail, had left me, for a girl called Charlotte. Charlotte's only friend, Freya, fell ill with pnemonia, and wasn't at school much. So Charlotte stole Abigail. Unfortunately for me, Leah, Mary and Niamh were ready to pounce. And they did.
Due to this, I would start "Big School" alone. As I tucked my shirt into my manky skirt, and straightened my grotesque tie, I couldn't help shuddering at the thought of "Big School". Loud and outgoing, I was the last person anyone would expect to be bullied. But anything was possible, and I took NOTHING for granted.
Slowly, I rose my head and stared at my reflection; the school uniform of Garwood High wasn't the prettiest of sights - but then again, school uniform wasn't exactly my first choice of outfit. Complete with a murky brown blazer, that was unpleasantly itchy; a wooly light brown jumper; a yellow polo shirt which stood out weirdly; thick tights that were dark and unattractive and a ghastly skirt that was just above the ankles, I looked like I'd thrown together some charity-shop clothes. Blindfolded. (To make matters worse, the skirt had been pleated especially, so with every step the thing lurched, swaying menacingly.)
The biggest problem was surviving. Not being too swotty, but not being at the bottom of the class. Suddenly, as the word "swot" entered my mind, everything went black. My feet were glued to the ground, and strangely, I couldn't bend my legs. And all I could see was a tiny video playing over and over in my head.
