The sun hung low in the sky, casting a golden hue over the quaint neighborhood of Savanna. Talia and Anderson Bannerman, both of whom had gracefully embraced their legacy as vampires, were engrossed in preparations for a significant family gathering. Their daughter, Manon, had recently crossed a threshold most vampires awaited with a mixture of eagerness and trepidation: her first kill. However, unbeknownst to her parents, the event that had been heralded as a rite of passage had not unfolded as they envisioned.

Talia, her elegance accentuated by her flowing scarf, meticulously crafted the invitations to their extended vampire family. "Anderson, we need to convey the importance of this gathering," she said, her voice smooth and melodic, yet laced with excitement. "Manon's first feed deserves to be celebrated."

Anderson, a tall man with a warm, inviting smile, nodded. "Absolutely, Talia. It's a tradition that binds our lineage. I'll help you with the wording." He leaned over the table, his fingers brushing against hers as they worked on the elegant parchment, rich with dark hues that spoke of their heritage. The invitations would be adorned with a silver wax seal, a symbol of their family's legacy.

As the two of them continued to draft the invitations, Manon sat quietly in her room, her thoughts a whirlwind. She recalled the party from last week, a vibrant gathering pulsating with music and laughter. She had been surrounded by friends, her sister Malia by her side, and yet the thought of feeding off a human made her stomach churn. While her parents viewed her first kill as a significant achievement, Manon felt an overwhelming sense of dread at the idea of taking a life, even for survival.

Malia, with her carefree demeanor and a twinkle in her eye, burst into Manon's room, a whirl of energy. "Come on, Manon! We need to figure out what to wear for the party on Friday!" she chirped, flopping onto Manon's bed. "It's a celebration! You should be excited!"

"I know, but..." Manon hesitated, her thoughts tangled in a web of guilt. "I didn't... I didn't actually kill anyone, Malia. It was just a party."

Malia frowned, her brows furrowing. "But you're supposed to! You can't tell Mom and Dad that. They'll be so shocked you know, especially because everyone is coming."

Manon sighed, her heart heavy. "I just can't bring myself to do it. I hate the thought of hurting someone."

Malia rolled her eyes playfully. "Well, you better come up with a good excuse then. We can't have them thinking you're a weakling!"

As the days passed, the anticipation for Friday grew, and so did Manon's anxiety. At school, she tried to distract herself from her thoughts. She was at her locker when she spotted Daniela, her best friend, chatting animatedly with Sophia, the renowned Filipino monster hunter. Manon's heart fluttered at the sight of Sophia, whose dark hair framed her striking features.

"Hey, Dani!" Manon called out, attempting to mask her nerves as she approached them. She felt a rush of warmth as she embraced Sophia, who smelled of fresh vanilla and something uniquely her own.

"Hey, Manon!" Daniela grinned, her eyes sparkling with mischief. "We were just talking about the party. You gonna tell Sophia about your-?" Manon covered her mouth

GOSH this girl. Never keeps her mouth shut, i swear if she wasn't a vampire. I would've had my first kill already.

Manon felt her cheeks heat up as Sophia turned her head towards her, a curious smile playing on her lips. "Why are you whispering?" she asked, her voice soft yet commanding.

Caught off guard, Manon stammered, "Uh, I—"

Before she could finish, Sophia leaned in and pressed a slow, deliberate kiss to Manon's lips. Time seemed to suspend as Manon's heart raced, and she melted into the kiss, feeling the warmth and tenderness of Sophia's touch. The moment deepened when Sophia playfully nipped at Manon's bottom lip, sliding her tongue into her mouth. It was a kiss that ignited her senses, sending butterflies fluttering in her stomach.
