"Alright everyone please turn your attention to the front board please."  Said Mr. Reed. Mr. Reed is a short guy who is in his mid-twenties, he has brown hair that can be mistaken for red so his students laugh at the coincidence. He teaches 10th grade English even though he is certified to teach at college level. He says he really makes a difference in kids lives and that's  worth more than any college level salary.  "Everyone these are your new seating arrangements if there are any suggestions about the people you want to sit with and you don't want to hurt their feelings just write a note and leave it on my desk." He said clearly exhausted from the previous night of first day jitters. On the front board there were many names and rectangles.  Avery was confused by all the shapes but she finally found her seat in the left side of the classroom in between  Lashay and Isaiah. "Um, hi nice to meet you" she said in a low voice. Before the two had a chance to respond Mr. Reed was already handing out assignments. "If you need help ask Mrs. Denoon." Said Mr. Reed. "Who's that?" Avery asked Isaiah. "I don't know it's my first year here." He said. "Me too" said Lashay. "I guess we're all newbies" Avery laughed and continued her work.

The bell rang 45 minutes later.
Only a few people left for their next class including Lashay. "Welcome to life skills" joked Mr. Reed. "As you can see I am not only your English teacher I am also your life skills teacher except for those select few, they have a different teacher too bad for them" he laughed. Avery looked around the class "I'm going to be spending a lot of time around these same 29 people" she thought to her self. She looked to her right where Isaiah was sitting and took in the view, it looked like he was drawing a sketch of some sort. "What's that?" Asked Avery.  Isaiah turned around startled by her presence.  "Oh...it's a candle" he replied very hesitantly. Avery looked down and saw the many different degrees of shading he did and was amazed at how complex the simple candle was. "Wow that's really good do you take art?"
"Nah, I used to but I quit" he said looking a little more at ease. That's when Avery realized that Isaiah had blue braces.
After one lunch block and three other learning blocks it was time for Avery to go home. But before she left she said goodbye to all the new friends she made. She had met a total of six new people, there was Isaiah, Lashay, Dylan, Kristen-Marie, Paul, and Leigh-Anne. They are her new clique.
