Lyric

Just the usual Saturday night, Netflix and pizza while talking to my mom on the phone. My mom was basically just informing me that she and my dad are going on a vacation to the Bahamas next week. Apparently she only thought it important to tell me that they were leaving on Monday now because she needs me to take care of her chihuahua Nelly. Now don't get me wrong, I love my mom and my dad, but I can not take another day with their psycho path pet. I myself have a miniature German Shepherd, due to the size of my apartment I couldn't get a normal sized one.

Oh yeah, I'm Lyric Ella Carter, Chicago native of twenty. I have an apartment downtown and am attending the University of Chicago for Cinema and Media Studies.

Anywho so here I am watching Pokémon: Indigo League for what must be the ten thousandth time while eating my hawaiian pizza. I'm on the episode where Team Rocket have opened a salon catering to the pokémon, creating competition for the breeder who Brock adores. Also the same episode where Brock gets Vulpix.

After another three episodes it was around 3:00 in the morning so I decided to go to bed. As I walked into my bedroom I heard some crazy screeching outside, perks of living in an apartment in the city, on a main street. I brushed my teeth and got into bed, drifting into a deep slumber shortly thereafter.

•••The Next Morning•••

Sunday mornings are always easy. Get up, go to church, come home, eat, relax for the entire day. Except, for some annoying reason, today I had to go to my parents' house to pick up Nelly.

I got in my car, a dark greyish Hyundai accord and made my way to my parents. Midway there I got a little hungry, so, I stopped at a Starbucks for a danish and coffee. "God, I really have to hit the gym one of these days." I said to Darla, who I knew from school. She works three jobs, one of them being this Starbucks. She laughed, "Don't worry, Lyric, you have plenty of time for that." I smiled, "Lets hope so!"

I pulled out onto the street, going a moderate 32mph, when all of a sudden this jackass decides that he was going to cut through my lane, trouble was, he was coming head on. I tried to swerve out of the way, only managing to crash into a car that was parked on the side of the road, and before everything went black I felt my entire left side being crushed and alarms blaring and people screaming, and then, I slipped into darkness, wondering if what Darla had said had been a message. Maybe I didn't have all that much time.

3rd person POV

People all around immediately pulled out phones, reporting the accident as soon as possible. Children could be heard screaming, women trying to calm them, and men shouting to each other what needed to be done. It was a matter of minutes before two ambulances and three police cars pulled up, immediately securing the area. Firefighters were called in to extricate the bodies from the cars, hopefully fast enough to save them if they weren't already lost. They first removed the man who had been driving on the wrong side of the road, then, using all the manpower they had, they moved his car to get to the crushed vehicle housing Lyric. They sawed off the door to reveal a broken and bloodied girl, with coffee spilled on her lap and a cheese danish smashed against the steering wheel.

The man was pronounced dead on impact, but Lyric was still alive, although she was slowly fading. She was rushed to the hospital and taken immediately to the ICU. It was found out that her entire left side had been obliterated, the leg, arm, and ribs all broken, leaving her with two punctured kidneys and bleeding from a head wound. They immediately sought out an organ donor who would be able to spare a kidney within the hour and put in the call to the last man they could count on.

Ashton

I got up from my kitchen table, answering the phone on its second ring, "Hello, Mr. Irwin?" "This is he." I replied.

"Hi, this is Jenna Holmes, a nurse at the Chicago Hospital, I am calling you to request a donation of a kidney, a young girl has been hit by a drunk driver and both of her kidneys were punctured, you're the last person on the list and her only chance at survival Mr. Irwin. Are you able to donate a kidney?" The person on the other end of the line spoke, not pausing for a singe breath. "I- Yes, I can be there within the next few hours." I responded. "Mr. Irwin, your kidney is needed right now, within the hour, we will send an ambulance out to your address immediately to pick you up. Thank you for your time and generosity." "Of cou-" I began, but was cut off as she abruptly hung up on me.

Grumbling, I got up and went to get dressed, hearing a siren in the distance already. Hit head on. Can you imagine? I finished pulling on my black skinny jeans to hear an urgent pounding on the door. I quickly grabbed my wallet and rushed to the front door, closing and locking it behind me before being rushed into the ambulance and whisked off to the hospital. They had me get changed into a patients gown while we drove there, and as soon as we arrived I was taken straight to the operating room.

*4 hours later*

I woke up with an intense pounding in my head and my insides sore. Whatever kind of pain killers they were feeding into me, didn't seem to be working too well. I heard a steady beep from not only my machine, but the one belonging to the person on the other side of the room. An older man and woman were sitting by the side of the patient's bed, weeping sorrowfully.

I sat up with a groan, the couple turning towards me at the sound. The woman smiled and said, "Thank you so much, young man. You saved our daughter's life." And with that she was back to sobbing.

'Daughter?' I thought. So it's a girl. I wonder what she's like... Before I could let my thoughts wander any further a nurse walked in, having a hushed conversation with the girls parents and leading them out of the room. As soon as they were gone I strained my neck to look at the girl. She looked about my age, with long mahogany colored hair, tanned skin, and, considering she was in an almost full body cast, a very nice figure. In other words, she was beautiful.

A/N

Hey peeps, so this is maw new story. I was watching NCIS (holla to anyone who is a fan) and. Idk I just had this epiphany. I originally had it down as a Luke fic, but with a teeny amount of persuasion 5secondsofskye was able to convince me it would be better as an Ashton fic.  Also, credit to 5secondsofskye for the idea of the name Lyric Carter, she's awesome, I know. I hope I can actually maybe get somewhere with this story bc I know I'm horrible at not continuing my stories, but I'm actually very interested to see where I can go with this one.  Thanks to everybody, and until next time,

   Amanda 💚
