I was sitting on my couch right after Lilith left and my phone beeped. I looked at it and was relieved that it wasn't Grey, but then realized it was Brian. I opened up messages and read his text. "Do you want to hang out sometime today?" He had asked. I thought about it, then typed "Sure". I pressed send and waited for his reply. "Cool, my house at 12?" I thought about it, should we hang out at his house, or somewhere more public. I mean, it's not a date, it's two friends hanging out. Unless he thinks it's a date. Is it a date? Anyway, I said yes to that. If we were in public it might seem like a date to the people around us, but if we were in private at his house, then it wouldn't seem like a date to anybody but his family, and they would know it's not a date. Right? Anyway, logic aside, he said "See you there" and I sent him a smiley face. I looked at the time. 10:54. I decided I should probably get dressed out of my pajamas, so I got up and did so.
I walked over to my room and opened up my closet. I swiped through my clothes, until I came across a blue high-waisted skirt and crop top that went just over the top of the skirt. I pulled off my pajamas and put on my outfit. I brushed my hair and pulled it back into a ponytail. I put on some simple stud earrings and a jangly bracelet. I put on my braided anklet and walked out to the living room and saw my mom had taken my place on the couch. "Hi mom," I said, a smile in my voice.
"Where are you going dressed all nice?" She asked.
"I'm not dressed that nice," I replied, rolling my eyes a little, "I'm going to Brian's house to hang out."
"Oh, Brian? The one that you 'don't' like," she said.
"I don't!" I exclaimed, but my face said otherwise.
"Sure," she said, "So what time is this date?"
"It's not a date!" I yelled, "And it's at noon."
"Are you having lunch there, or not?" She asked.
"I'll eat a quick snack right now," I said. I went into the kitchen and grabbed two tortillas and the Mexican cheese and made a quick quesadilla. I popped it in the microwave and waited for it to be done. I pulled out the plate and cut up the quesadilla. I put a piece in my mouth and it was perfect! So cheesy and gooey, it was so perfect. Yeah, I know, thoroughly describing a quesadilla, well, food is amazing and it deserves to be explained just as well as anything else! Anyway, after I finished my quesadilla I looked at the time. 11:15. Wow, time was going to move slowly. I still shouldn't leave to go over there until like 11:55, I still had forty minutes of waiting. Then, I got a brilliant idea. I'll text Lilith! I'm sure she'd love to here that her favorite 'ship' is hanging out, even though they aren't a couple! Sadly, my mind added a yet at the end of that sentence, because if we were talking about my dream here, any time now I should be truly falling for him.
I grabbed my phone and texted Lilith. "Brian and I are hanging out later", I decided that's simple enough. I pressed send and sat down on the couch. Then, I saw her reply. "Date?" She asked. I sighed and quickly texted, "Hangout." She almost immediately responded with "Oh well. But, is it just you who says it's a hangout?" She asked. I thought about, then decided to tell her the truth. "Well, he said, do you want to hang out sometime today, and I said sure. So, he may think it's a date, but he said hangout. And he texted me, he seems like somebody who would do something more interesting to ask me out than just a simple text" I typed. I pressed send and waited for it to send. Long texts take a long time to send. She responded after it finally sent with, "Interesting, but true. Where and when are you hanging out?" I replied with the answer, "Noon at his house." She seemed to be typing for a while, then I got an answer after about a minute or two. "Oooooh his house😏." Oh geez, now Lilith has some interesting ideas. That smirk face never means anything good usually. "It's just his house." I replied. "Yes, but it is a very private location." She answered. "Oh, whatever, Lilith." I replied. I looked at the time. 11:30. Still another 25 minutes to wait. I groaned and leaned back into the couch. I decided to take a nap, so I put an alarm to wake me up on my phone. After that, I quickly fell asleep into my nap.
I woke up to my alarm buzzing. It was finally 11:55. I quickly got up and pulled on my sandals and grabbed my phone and my keys. "Bye, mom!" I yelled.
"Bye, Sarah! Have fun!" She yelled in reply from her bedroom. I walked out the door to my car and powered on the engine. I pulled out of the driveway, and set on the road. I turned on the radio, but of course it was during the commercials. Always my luck. And of course, as soon as the commercials finished and the first sing started, I got to Brian's house. I parked the car in their driveway and walked up to their front door. I knocked four times and Brian immediately answered the door.
"Hi," Brian greeted with a smile.
"Hey," I replied.
"Come inside," he said, showing me inside. I stepped inside and pulled off my shoes and Brian closed the door behind us. "Welcome!" He said.
"Well, thank you for inviting me over," I smiled.
"It's my pleasure," he said. We walked out of the entryway and into the living room, where a woman and a young man were lounging on the couch. They both looked at me and smiled.
"Hello, you must be Sarah!" The woman exclaimed, "We've heard much about you."
"Hello," I replied with a smiled. Brian gestured for me to sit on the couch with him. I sat down next to Brian and smiled.
"So this is the amazing Sarah," the young man said, who I assumed was Brian's brother, "I'm Brandon, Brian's older brother. This is our mom." He gestured to the woman sitting on the couch. "Our dad is at work, if you wanted to know." Brandon added.
"Well, hi everyone," I said. Then I noticed Brandon kept smirking and winking at Brian. Oh gosh, Brandon knows that Brian likes me.
"Well, Sarah, do you want to go hang out upstairs?" Brian asked.
"Sure," I replied. He stood up and I followed suit and followed down a hallway and up a staircase that lead to another hallway. We walked down the hallway and he opened the door at the very end of it and gestured me inside. It was a very large room with couches, chairs, a mini fridge, and a TV.
"This is our hang out room," he said.
"Cool," I replied, "It looks cozy."
"It is," he laughed in reply. We both sat down on one of the couches and he looked down at me. "So, I want to get to know you, Sarah."
"I want to get to know you as well, Brian," I replied.
"Well, I'll ask a question first. When is your birthday?" He asked.
"March 8th, 1998," I replied, "When is your birthday?"
"January 29th, 1998," he answered, "Do you have any siblings?"
"No," I responded, "How old is your brother?"
"My oldest brother is 25, then 22, then Brandon is 18," he replied, "And I have a sister that is 20."
"So you're the youngest of five?" I asked.
"Yep, but that means I get the least responsibility in the house, so it's not that bad," he smiled, "So, have you lived your whole life here?"
"Yes," I answered, "And where did you move from, four months ago?"
"Kentucky," he replied, "Favorite food?"
"Quesadillas," I answered immediately, "Your favorite food?"
"Mashed potatoes," he answered, "What's your favorite color?"
"Blue," I replied, "Your favorite color?"
"Green," he answered, "Okay, you want to be done with the immense questioning?"
"Yes," I replied.
"So what now?" He asked.
"I don't know, this is your house," I answered.
"True," he smiled, "Can I tell you something?"
"Yes, of course," I said, "You're my friend, you can tell me anything." For some reason, when I said friend, something deep down inside hurt, like I was saying something wrong. Like it shouldn't be friend. It should be boyfriend. I looked up to those bright blue eyes that shined in the sunlight that was pouring through the window. His blonde hair was slightly tousled and he just looked so attractive at that moment. And then I remembered how kind and sweet he was and that just pushed me overboard. I think, no I know, I'm truly falling for him now.
"Oh, never mind. It's nothing," he said.
"No, it can't be nothing. Everything that you say is something," I replied. A smile played across his mouth at that point.
"I'll tell you later, it's not that important," he replied.
"Well, if you were about to tell me, it must have been important to you," I said back.
"Wait, I've got an idea," he said, suddenly changing the subject.
"Don't you change the subject," I warned.
"Too late," he smiled, "Do you want to invite Lilith and Henry over and we can play truth or dare?"
"Sure," I replied. He whipped out his phone and texted them. Soon, the doorbell rang and there stood Henry and Lilith. We watched from the window. Brian's mom let them in and showed them upstairs and soon they walked in and sat down. "Let's begin," I smiled.
