Something glinted in the small lake I was standing beside, reflecting sunlight from the glowing orb that hung high in the afternoon sky. Out of curiosity, I reached my hand down to touch the small object. When my fingers grazed the strangely warm metal of the object, a flash of light erupted from the item and my hand. Shrieking in panic, I scrambled backwards, shocked to see that the object was no longer in the water. Feeling something weighing down my neck, I looked down in awe and touched the warm metal of the strange necklace. Trying and failing to remove the pendant from around my neck, I wondered what it might be for. It was as if it had attached itself to me."How...?" I whispered, my voice trailing off. My hand began to glow again and I brought it up to my face and watched in utter amazement as a detailed pattern began to form on my hand as if it was being drawn on at that very moment by an invisible hand. The glow slowly faded from the tattoo and I saw that it was a beautiful phoenix; every detail was precise. I can't explain why but I felt no fear, only amazement and something akin to comfort. I touched the strange pendant necklace again, and it immediately brightened and seemed to pulse with life. Suddenly, I felt myself begin to shrink, my skin feeling as though it was ablaze, yet it did not hurt. I ran to the lake so that I could see my reflection. A golden phoenix stared back at me. The only part of me that I recognised was my pair of sky blue eyes, shimmering in the light of my golden feathers. Memories filled my mind. Memories that I somehow recognised as my own.
A boy with dark grey eyes who looked exactly like me teaching me how to fly;
A griffin who had the boy's eyes helping me as I flew for the first time;
A woman and a man pulling away that same boy;
Another woman who I recognised as my own mother weeping in the arms of a man who was looked to be my father;
My mother removing the pendant from around my neck somehow and everything fading away.
Why had I not had these memories before? Somehow, even though I was confused, I felt free. Knowing how to fly now, I took to the skies, enjoying the beautiful view of my world. The crystal castle I lived in sparkled just beyond the horizon. The trees of the Forbidden Forest swaying to in the wind below me. It truly was a dazzling, otherworldly view.
