There were just 15 minutes left until Dev's arrival, and I still wasn't done with the final round of checking. Samantha, noticing my restlessness, grabbed my arm and said, "Aadrika, this is the n-th time you're checking the preparations. Trust me, everything is perfect! And even if there's some tiny inconvenience, Dev will be far too happy to notice it."
I gave her a shy smile in response, but the nervousness inside me refused to fade. Being someone who always strives for perfection, I couldn't stop myself from double-checking everything again and again.
It struck me that I'd never been this nervous even during my exams, as I'm usually a confident person.
But when it comes to Dev, something about him pushes me to go the extra mile, no matter how much I try to calm myself.
After what felt like an eternity, he finally arrived-11:59 on the dot. We all took our positions as he walked in, looking around with a confused expression.
It was almost comical, like a child who had wandered off and gotten lost in a crowded fair. The clock struck exactly 12, and we sprang into action.
Naman and Abhilekh set off the firecrackers, Samantha emerged with the cake, and as for me? I came up with something extra special:a heartfelt birthday wish meant just for him. Hehe.
As soon as I hugged the life out of him and kissed his cheek, he seemed to freeze, slipping into a dreamy reverie that required me to shake him gently to bring him back to reality. "Hey, happy birthday," I said softly, cupping his face. His blue eyes lit up, flashing me the brightest smile I had ever seen as his hand moved to my waist, gripping me tightly.
Time felt like it had stopped for both of us. His piercing blue eyes, deep and vivid, reminded me of the calm ocean under moonlight, mystical, mesmerizing, and full of unspoken emotions.
In that gaze, I saw everything I had ever dreamed of, moments I had only read about in romantic novels now playing out before my eyes.
Suddenly, three very familiar voices broke the spell with exaggerated coughing, snapping us back to reality. We pulled away from each other, flustered.
"Haww, Aadrika! When I asked you to plan a movie night, you said it'd get too late. And now here you are, planning to show us an adult movie instead!" Naman teased, making me blush furiously at the absurdity of his words. Dev, however, wasn't having it and gave Naman a light knock on the head, clearly annoyed.
"Oh Naman, stop it unless you want to exit this location without your dignity intact. Can't you see our Dev Sahib is super annoyed that you interrupted his moment?" Samantha chimed in, her teasing making things even more awkward.
Dev retorted, "I'm sure you don't have the strength to bear a knock from me either."
Before things escalated further, I quickly intervened, "Guys, can we please move to the cake-cutting session?"
