( chapter thirty-seven, scars on our bodies )
❝ am I out of my head, am I out of my mind, if you only knew the bad things I like, don't think that I can explain it, what can I say, it's complicated ❞
^^ I declare that this is officially Stu and Kat's songapril 18th, 1998
BILLY LOOMIS WAS the first boy Kathryn ever had serious feelings for. Back in San Antonio, before she and her fractured family uprooted to Woodsboro, she had never been interested in the boys at school or in her neighborhood. For a while, she even wondered if she liked boys at all.
Then she saw him.
He walked the halls of Woodsboro High like he owned the place, hands stuffed casually in the pockets of his blue jeans. His chocolate-brown eyes were always narrowed, deceptive and calculating, and his lips curled into that infuriatingly perfect smirk that sent every girl swooning.
He was perfect.
The attraction crept up on her, slow and unexpected. At first, she was simply curious. There was something about him that drew her in - something dangerous, something she knew she shouldn't want. That inherited curiosity, the same one her mother always warned her about, had her studying him from afar. Somewhere along the way, curiosity turned into infatuation, and she fell for him like a moth to a flame.
And then, there was Stu.
Stu Macher - Billy's right-hand man and Kathryn's best friend.
Kathryn had always seen Stu as just that: her best friend. Maybe Billy's all-consuming presence was to blame, stealing her attention with his charming charisma. Even when she and Stu shared the occasional flirty moment, it was harmless fun. Stu was the one she could count on platonically, but never romantically.
Until now.
Lying side by side on her bed, gazing into his blue eyes, Kathryn could feel something shift.
It was laughable, really. How could she be falling for her ex-best friend? The same ex-best friend who was now a fugitive. A murderer. The one who took so many lives, including her best friend's, and nearly her own. How did that happen?
She'd always been a little twisted - her fascination with true crime, her violent tendencies and her anger issues were proof enough. But these feelings? These were different. They defied every moral fiber she possessed. And yet, she couldn't help but want to lean into them, to embrace the madness fully.
How much worse could it really get?
With a frustrated sigh, Kathryn tore her gaze from Stu's, sitting upright as her thoughts spiraled into dangerous territory.
What would Sidney think if she knew Kathryn was lying here with the man who killed her mother, her best friend, and almost her? Worse yet, what would Sidney say if she knew Kathryn missed him? Missed them.
And that kiss.
God, it was a good kiss. Who would've thought Stu had it in him? She'd always assumed he'd be sloppy, careless. But what he'd done just moments ago had her second-guessing everything. Her lips still tingled, and she couldn't help but wonder what else he was capable of...
"You look like you're about to pop a vein."
Stu's voice pulled her back to reality. She glanced over to see him propped against her headboard, bleached hair disheveled from her fingers tugging at it earlier. A cigarette hung between his pink, swollen lips, and he flicked a lighter with casual ease.
