Chapter 5

AN: Good evening/morning good humans (or gremlins you never know). I am back to serve to you this weird story that I have been making for the better part of 2023. I have 10 chapters written down and am working on the 11th as we speak. I MIGHT bump the chapters per month up to two. Things to note for this chapter. I've previously said that Sive isn't the last Vala, that remains true. As I've previously gone over, there is actually an entire village of them. But anyway, in this chapter we meet Mrs.Isueda Firelight, who has a COMPLETELY MADE UP disease (is that what it would be classified as?) called Caeruleum (blue in Latin according to Google Translate). She has the hearing version of it so for her it constantly sounds like the ocean is right in her ears. This blocks everything else out and makes her legally deaf. Her "hearing ear panther" is actually her familiar that is hearing ear animal certified, but you have been warned he can destroy you on the field of battle.

Eight weeks had passed in the blink of an eye. It was almost time for Jorvik High's fall break. Bastion had gotten better and gone to live with Thomas again. The reunion was sweet as Thomas hugged and patted the shepherd, tears flowing down his face. Icicle, Thomas' Blue Eyed Leucistic Ball Python, watched from inside the house. A blanket wrapped around her, dark blue eyes going from Thomas to Sigry to Eva. After that Sigry had jumped into work while waiting for news from the Vala. Occasionally she would try and find clues to the other two's whereabouts, but she would have no luck. Arthur of the Vala had told her about Elizabeth being fully found and how they were working on a ritual to decrystallize her. The process should be complete any day now. She had also discovered that Rania was a Vala apprentice in that conversation. Arthur seemed like a good man to mentor her. He had even asked her tips on how to keep Rania under control and if there was a better way to instruct her. Sigry knew she could trust the man with her daughter. Sigry thought Rania and Dellingr had looked like true warriors. The ax and shield were well built and Dellingr's armor fit perfectly. Sigry leaned back in the chair in her office, re-reading the speech she would be making at a press conference in a few days. A hand tapped her shoulder. Sigry jumped, drawing the pocket knife on her belt. The weapon was knocked away by a longer, sharper carving knife. An older woman stood behind her. Her hair was a light silver color. Her eyes were a familiar emerald green that held a wiseness to them. A black panther with baby blue eyes stood next to her, he was wearing a vest that said "Do not pet, I'm on duty". The woman was wearing a red t-shirt that said "Best Grandma" in pink letters and pants with a flower pattern on them. She put away the carving knife in a sheath and then into a small purse. She pulled a box from it and pulled a card from it. She handed it to Sigry while she looked for something else.

Sigry looked at the card. It looked like a business card. Sigry read it. Isueda Firelight. I have the hearing variant of Caeruleum meaning I am completely deaf. I understand JSL and can read about ⅓ of what you say.

Isueda handed her a different card, before continuing to dig around in her purse. It was another business card, this one had the panther in a picture.

Hi my name is Blue. I am a hearing ear panther. I was rescued from a zoo as an adult. Zoo life was all I had known so I couldn't be released to the wild so I entered the hearing ear animals program and graduated. Now I work with my human to keep her safe and help with her everyday life that requires hearing. See back for more info on the program I graduated from.

Isueda made a triumphant "aha" as she produced a piece of paper. Sigry read it.

Miss Sigry Varanger,

We have completed the ritual. It would be helpful if you were to come and get Mrs.Elizabeth Sunbeam as she is still very weak. Please let our messenger know when or if you will be able to.

Lady Heather Skystar, head Witch of the Vala

Sigry grabbed a notepad and pen off of her desk. She scribbled down a quick note and handed it to Isueda. Blue picked up her pocket knife as Isueda read the note. Blue gave it to Sigry.

"Thank you, good sir." Sigry said, smiling.

Isueda looked up and smiled. She nodded and handed Sigry a small plastic bag with a chocolate chip cookie. Then Isueda pointed to the closed window in the back of her office. With a snap the window suddenly appeared open, the screen no longer there. Isueda quickly put her illusion back up.

Sigry nodded, noting that this Vala was a Moon Circle user. Before Isueda disappeared, Sigry signed two of the basic phrases she knew in JSL from her wife, "Thank you. Have a nice day".

Isueda smiled and signed back, 'You too".

Isueda disappeared along with Blue.
