AN: Happy New Year, my friends! I don't have any actual notes for this chapter. Frankly, as I'm writing this it's nearly 12:00 and I have no braincells. So please please ask if you need something clarified. There's bound to be a few mistakes because I wrote a lot/edited at almost 12:00 as well. I'm hoping to go back and edit previous chapters during the rest of my break since I'm done with my big goal. Happy reading!

Bramble whinnied, the sound was quiet. Kamilla didn't even know he could whinny. She had seen him try, but all that would happen was his mouth would open. Bramble spun on his haunches and struck out with his back hooves. CRACK! The crystal shattered like glass. Catherine collapsed onto the floor. Kamilla pulled her headphones off her ears and crouched. There was no sign of the Shadowguardians.

"Holy moly." She said, helping Catherine sit up.

"You came." Catherine said, smiling. Oh, she had two dimples like Kamilla.

"I mean, why wouldn't we?" Kamie said, struggling out of her coat. "I don't think a t-shirt is conducive of forty five degree weather."

Catherine snorted, taking the coat. "And a dress shirt is?"

"Well, it has long sleeves." Kamilla replied, grinning.

Catherine hummed, "I see."

"Let us go." Kamilla said, helping Catherine stand.

She helped Catherine up onto Bramble. He blew air out through his nose and flicked his ears in acknowledgment.

Kamilla mounted. Catherine set her hands on her knees. Kamilla opted to have Bramble walk while Catherine regained her bearings.

"So," Catherine said after a moment, "want to understand the earrings a bit more?"

"Yes actually." Kamilla said.

"It's enchanted so that our Soul Bond is more... I don't think palpable is the word I'm looking for." Catherine hummed.

"Easily readable?" Kamilla suggested. "I know there's a word for it but I can't think of it."

Catherine chuckled. "Yes, more easily readable. I forgot how cold it was in the fall."

"At least you were born here, I grew up where our lowest temperature was like high forties in the winter." Kamilla said, grinning. "Highest temperature could be hundred ten to hundred fifteen in the summer."

"Now that's gross." Catherine chuckled, shaking her head.

As they walked they heard the sounds of fighting. The ZAP of the Lightning Circle. The smell of sickly sweet cotton candy as portals to Pandoria opened and closed from the Sun Circle. The howls of terror as illusions of horror were summoned with the Moon Circle. But above the cacophony, one thing stood out, Lisa's singing, using the power of the Star Circle worked to heal wounds.

Kamie's stomach dropped as she heard a scream of pain.

"FASTER BRAMBLE!" Kamie called.

Bramble, despite his deafness, understood what Kamie wanted. The little horse sped up, his hooves banging against the stone ground.

They burst into the waning sunlight. Linda held her arm close to herself, it was bleeding from three jagged gashes. Kamie could finally see these monsters in the light. They were short, maybe 5'3 at the tallest. Their upper body was shaggy purple hyenas, their legs were human-like with shaggy fur. Their hyena heads and overall appearance made them look like some ungodly furry mixed with a werewolf.

Lisa's singing gets more desperate, Alex's lightning more fiercer, Anne's portals were coming faster. Kamilla watched as one of the Shadowguardians lunged for Alex's back. Where the hell were the Guardian Horses?!

SCREEE! ZAP! Artisan soared down, electricity sparking through his feathers. He quite literally punched a owl sized hole in the Shadowguardian's chest.

The Shadowguardian's sneer turned into a shocked expression. Then in an explosion of blue light the Shadowguardians surrounding them found themselves ensnared in thick roots.

"Thank you for following through on your deal." Catherine said, rather quietly.

"I always follow through." The familiar voice said. It sent shivers down Kamilla's spine.

Sive floated down, placidly tuning a dark red violin.

Catherine took the beautiful instrument.

"You know," Sive mused, as she handed over the bow. "Your husband spent a pretty penny restoring this for you. His love truly knows no bounds."

"I know," Catherine said, jumping down from Bramble's back. She lifted the violin to her chin.

Sive grinned a wicked grin, then disappeared. The roots disappeared.

The Shadowguardians cackled, all of them jumped forward. Bramble's ears pinned against his head as he reared and squealed a war cry fit for a Guardian of the Raincat Herd.

BANG! The Shadowguardians hit a forceshield of some kind. Catherine was playing a scale, her eyes closed as her bow glided across her string.

"An illusion..." Linda breathed, "a powerful enough one to force something back. She-"

"Knows her shit?" Anne suggested.

Linda nodded.

Catherine's song changed, Kamilla recognized it. The gentle floating melody she had heard ever since joining up with the Keepers, the Valedale Hymn. The Shadowguardians growled.

"Nooo," one of them rasped as they all slunk away.

"I will not let you harm them." Catherine said.

She looked like a goddess, her sky-like eyes sparking with fury.

"SHADOWGUARDIANS! ATTACK!" One of the Shadowguardians howled.
