All I hear is a door unlock, open then bang closed. I feel I should get up to see who's come into my empty apartment but I feel I already know. After 10 minutes of ignoring all the noise the mystery person is making, I decide to get up to see who it is. As I get out of my lovely, warm bed I hear the shower turn on. All I find once I've stumbled to the living room are a packet of half eaten chocolate biscuits on the coffee table, a big winter coat on the ground and a trail of clothing all the way to the bathroom.
I decide that it's probably my best friend Ivy so I just leave a towel outside the bathroom door for her to use once she's out of the shower. I head into to the kitchen and decide to have my usual bowl of cereal.
Knowing Ivy she'll stay for a day, rob a packet of biscuits and ask for some money to borrow, which she will never give back. Then she'll head off to travel the world, while I sit here, with my boring old job as a school teacher in our home town of Shellich.
Just then the bathroom door opens. As I guessed it was Ivy, now walking around my apartment in just a towel not noticing I'm here. She walks into the closet where I keep spare clothes for her and then she just casually gets changed in the middle of my sitting room.
I decide now would be a good time to scare her, so I just pop into the room, to say hi. All I see is the back of her covered with so many new scars and tattoos. Scars to remind her of the bad times and tattoos to remind of the good times. Also to cover up some of the very bad scars.
As I look at her I see her first tattoo she ever got when she was 17. I remember skipping school to go to the tattoo shop with her. If you were over the age of 16 they would tattoo you if your parent came with you, so she forced me to pretend to be her dad. We luckily fooled them so she got a key on the back of her right calf and a keyhole on her left calf.
She explained after she got the tattoos that her dad used to tell her stories of a magical key that could transport you anywhere in the world. Funny thing was the stories were true and she never knew one day she would be running around the world with this key.
I realise that if I don't speak soon, I won't be able to scare her, like I always do.
'So how did you get that scar from your bum to your shoulder?' I ask.
'Jesus Josh! You don't just walk in on a girl getting dressed there's a thing called privacy!' Ivy screams as she grabs the towel off the couch. 'GET OUT!'
'I'm sorry, I'm sorry' I laugh as I walk back into the kitchen to finish my cereal. I close the door behind me to give Ivy the privacy she wants. As I sit down at my 4 seater table alone I think of all the tales Ivy will have to tell me this time, of her adventures around the world.
