Following a terrible collision with Sydney Thunder teammate Daniel Sams during Friday's (January 3) BBL match against the Perth Scorchers, Cameron Bancroft will be out for a long time after fracturing both his nose and shoulder. With a very real chance that his domestic season may also be ended, he will undoubtedly miss the rest of the BBL season.
In contrast, Sams is anticipated to miss at least 12 days of action following the diagnosis of concussions in both players. After being hurried off the field, Sams and Bancroft were admitted to the hospital in Perth, where they stayed overnight.
According to Thunder General Manager Trent Copeland, Sams and Bancroft were both in "excellent spirits" at the time of the update. He stated on Channel 7 that "both players in good spirits and properly looked after last year." "Throughout the night, the Perth Scorchers, the on-site medical team, and the hospital staff were amazing. From the Thunder and me to the players and their families, a huge thank you.
"Two extremely tough people as well. Discuss with anyone Cameron Bancroft's style of play and his composition. He is tough. Last night, Bangers watched the game and followed every ball till the end.
Thunder will have to struggle for resources if they want to build on their impressive start to the season (four victories in five), as Bancroft is out and Sams will miss at least the next four games. Teenage sensation Sam Konstas may be available to them following his involvement in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. However, given that Australia's tour of Sri Lanka begins on January 29 and includes a pre-tour camp in the United Arab Emirates, his involvement may be limited.
