Aubrey

"Aubrey"

The way he said my name felt so familiar. Why?

"Aubrey? Are you okay?" Ronnie asked, snapping me out of my thoughts.

"Yeah, yeah, I'm fine," I said taking another bite out of my hot dog.

"You know, I think Joe might have a secret crush on you."

"Oh, come on, Aubrey! Joe totally has a crush on you!"

What the hell?

"Why does that sound like déjà vu?" I asked my little sister who looked at me with a shocked expression.

Ronnie shrugged. "No idea."

Ronnie and I finished our hot dogs and went to the restroom. When we got out, Ronnie ran over to the merchandise stand and begged me for a tee shirt.

"Ronnie, you know I can't afford to get you a tee shirt." She nodded in defeat and we headed to our front-row seats. Gotta love VIP contests.

"This song is for someone I once loved... Someone I never forgot," Joe said and they began singing a song Ronnie once told me was called "Before the Storm".

"Of course..." Ronnie said underneath her breath and I looked at her.

"Of course what?" I looked at her while watching Joe Jonas.

"Nothing," she said quickly.

As soon as Joe and I made eye contact, it weirdly felt as if he were singing this song to me. I looked away and watched as my sister jammed out to the song.

"Standing out in the rain, knowing that it's really over - please don't leave me alone

Flooded with all this pain, knowing that I'll never hold you, like I did before the storm"

--------

"Let me see your passes," the guard at the backstage door asked. I pulled the two passes from my purse and handed them to the man, who, according to his name tag, was named 'Samuel'. "This way ladies," Samuel said and opened the doors for us to head through.

"Aubrey? Ronnie?" I turned around and it was sweaty Kevin Jonas.

Ronnie squealed beside me.

I smiled and nodded at him. "Great show, Kevin."

Kevin smiled and pointed down the hallway. "This way ladies."

Kevin led us down a long hallway, past tons of security guards, and tons of rooms.

"Aubrey, Ronnie. What a pleasure," Nick said with a grin from a room we just passed.

"Hi, Nick!" Ronnie said excitedly and ran up to hug him tight. My cheeks turned red. Why does she have to be so excited around them? They're just some guys.

"Didn't think you'd want to come," Joe said from behind me with a light smile. Even all sweaty he was still attractive.

"Well, I promised my sister."

"What a good sister, then. She's a big fan, huh?"

My cheeks slowly turned red again, but I nodded. "Huge, it's actually kind of embarrassing." I laughed and shook my head at my little sister who was squealing with Nick Jonas.

"It's sweet, don't worry," Joe said to me with a reassuring smile. "Would you like a tour?" I nodded and he led me through all the halls and eventually through the dressing rooms, leaving his for last.

"If you don't mind, I'd like to freshen up," he said to me, grabbing some clothes and heading for the bathroom. I looked around. The room was covered with pictures. Baby pictures, childhood pictures, all sorts of pictures. And boy, was it messy. As I looked through some pictures, I noticed one that seemed to stand out. The three boys, a few years before, at a birthday party.

"Happy birthday, Ronnie!"

"Like my pictures?" I jumped.

"I'm so sorry, I didn't mean to snoop, I-"

He laughed. "Don't worry, it's fine." He smiled and took the picture and looked at me. "An old family friend's birthday party." He put it down and looked back at me. "So, you're from LA?"

I nodded. "Born and raised."

"You and your sister seem to be really close, huh?"

"Yeah, well, she's all I've got."

"What do you mean?"

"A little over two years ago, my parents and I were in a really bad accident."

He raised his eyebrows and looked at me. "That really sucks, I'm sorry. I'm guessing you turned out fine, then?"

I nodded. "My memory's a little messed up, but Ronnie and I make do." I smiled as someone came to the doorway.

"Joe, we want- Who's this?" I turned around and came face to face with whom I can only assume was Joe's mother.

"Mom, this is Aubrey. She and her sister met us today and we invited them to hang out with us after the show," Joe said, going to his mother who seemed to be in some sort of shock.

This is really awkward. Am I not supposed to be here?

"I should get going, it's pretty late and-"

"Nonsense!" Mrs. Jonas said. "Where is your lovely sister?"

"With Nick and Kevin. I wanted to show Aubrey around," Joe said to his mother who seemed to be extremely happy all of a sudden.

At once, Mrs. Jonas disappeared, leaving Joe and I alone.
